The most beautiful beginning. 🤍

This week we had the privilege of welcoming another precious baby into the world, and moments like these never lose their magic.

Despite being born by caesarean birth, this beautiful little one was placed skin-to-skin with mum immediately after birth (mum’s privacy has been protected in this photo). Just look at the peace on both of their faces. 💕

Immediate skin-to-skin after birth has so many benefits, helping to regulate baby’s temperature, heart rate and breathing, supporting breastfeeding, and encouraging that incredible first bond between mother and baby.

A huge congratulations to this beautiful family, and a special thank you to Dr Angela Hardy for performing such a calm and gentle caesarean birth. It was a privilege for our midwife Zita to be there supporting this family as they welcomed their newest little love.

Birth can happen in many different ways, but every family deserves the opportunity to experience connection, support and those precious first moments together.

Welcome to the world, little one.

Our January–June 2026 Snapshot 📊

Over the first 6 months of 2026, we welcomed 31 beautiful babies into the world – 18 girls and 13 boys 💕💙

Birth Method

• 45% Vaginal Birth
• 32% Elective Caesarean Section
• 10% Emergency Caesarean Section
• 3% VBAC
• 3% Waterbirth

At first glance, our caesarean rate may appear high. However, it’s important to note that we work alongside an obstetrician who offers and supports maternal-choice caesarean birth, and many women specifically seek our service because they want access to planned caesarean care. This naturally contributes to our elective caesarean numbers.

Nationally, around 59% of Australian women give birth vaginally and approximately 41% by caesarean section. Our statistics reflect the unique group of women who choose our service and the emphasis we place on supporting informed choice, whether that is a vaginal birth, VBAC, waterbirth, or planned caesarean birth.

Feeding at 6 Weeks

We’re especially proud to share that at 6 weeks postpartum:

87% Breastfeeding
7% Mixed Feeding
6% Formula Feeding

These feeding outcomes are significantly higher than Australian averages, where around 39% of babies are exclusively breastfed at 6 months, highlighting the dedication of our families and the ongoing support they receive throughout the postnatal period.

Every statistic represents a unique story, a family, and a birth experience that was right for them. Our role is never to promote one type of birth or feeding method over another, but to ensure women are informed, supported, and respected in their choices.

A heartfelt thank you to the 31 families who entrusted us with their care this half of the year. We are honoured to be part of your journey.

Last week, Lucy and I were gifted these gorgeous boobie mugs from a lovely family we have had the privilege of caring for, and they couldn’t be more perfect! 🩷

Considering so much of our work revolves around supporting women through pregnancy, birth, breastfeeding, and all things b***s, paired with the fact that we both run on copious amounts of tea, these mugs feel very fitting indeed.

It’s never the gifts themselves that mean the most, but the thought behind them. Knowing that families think of us long after their babies are born is incredibly special and a reminder of why we love what we do.

To the family who gave these to us, thank you. They brought a huge smile to our faces and will be well used during many cups of tea and chats about babies and b***s.

For over 10 years, I’ve stood beside families in some of the most vulnerable and overwhelming moments of their lives.

Working in special care, I’ve supported parents through uncertainty, fear, and the kind of challenges no one ever imagines when they first picture meeting their baby. It’s a space that teaches you so much about strength, resilience, and just how deeply parents love their babies.

But becoming a mum myself changed everything.

I had my own difficult breastfeeding journey, one that didn’t come easily, one that showed me just how hard it can really be. And in that experience, I realised something was missing.

Becoming a lactation consultant gave me something I didn’t have before. It gave me the tools, the knowledge, and the ability to truly support women in a way I hadn’t been able to.

To not just care, but to empower.
To not just reassure, but to guide.

On International Day of the Midwife, I feel so proud to be part of a profession that walks alongside women in their most raw, powerful, and life-changing moments.

And even prouder to now support mothers not just in birth but in feeding, in healing, and in finding their confidence.

Two photos. Twenty years between them.

The first, me as a second-year student midwife, fresh off the high of my very first birth. I still remember the feeling… equal parts awe, nerves, and something I couldn’t quite put into words yet. I just knew I had found where I was meant to be.

The second, taken recently, at my first birth as a private midwife. Different role, more responsibility, a deeper sense of calm… but that same feeling is still there. That quiet, powerful knowing that this work matters.

On International Day of the Midwife, I find myself reflecting on how this has never just been a job for me. It’s what I chose straight out of school, and not once have I wanted to do anything else. Through all the changes, challenges, and growth, this has remained constant.

There’s something incredibly special about being invited into such a transformative moment in someone’s life. It’s a privilege I’ll never take for granted.

Find the thing that makes you happy to show up every day. The thing that fills your cup, even when you’re tired. The thing that gives you purpose and joy.

For me, it’s always been this 💜

🌸 Pre-eclampsia Screening in Pregnancy 🌸

Pre-eclampsia is a pregnancy condition that can affect blood pressure, other organs, and the health of both mum and baby. Early detection makes a big difference.

✅ What’s recommended?
Current guidelines recommend that all pregnant women are screened for pre-eclampsia risk in the first trimester. This is usually done with:
• A detailed health history
• Blood pressure monitoring
• Blood tests
• Ultrasound measurements

🩺 If you’re identified as higher risk, your care team may recommend preventative strategies such as low-dose aspirin and closer monitoring throughout pregnancy.

✨ Screening doesn’t mean there’s a problem — it’s about being proactive, reducing risks, and supporting the safest pregnancy journey possible.

At Holistic Women’s Health, we’re here to walk with you through every step of pregnancy, providing evidence-based care and support for your choices. 💜
