The Practice of Reciprocity 🌿

There is something quietly beautiful about reciprocity—the gentle rhythm of giving and receiving.

Nature offers this wisdom all around us. The earth supports us, the breath sustains us, and when we pause long enough to notice, we remember that we don’t have to carry everything on our own. We are invited not only to give, but also to receive.

This Thursday evening, we’ll explore this theme through gentle movement, mindful breath, and deep rest, creating space to reconnect with ourselves and perhaps receive exactly what we need.

There are just 3 places remaining, and I’d love to welcome you if this feels like the practice your heart has been asking for.

This week has been full of simple joys. ā˜€ļøšŸ§¶

I finally finished crocheting this bag for my daughter Sienna. It was made from a ā€œsimpleā€ (šŸ¤¦ā€ā™€ļø) Kmart kit, but the skill of crocheting itself is something much more precious. It was lovingly passed down through the women in my family—from my great-grandmother to my grandmother, to my mum, and now it’s arriving to me.

As I stitched each row, I found myself reflecting on how much of who we are has been shaped by the people who have shared their gifts with us.

The same feels true for yoga.

Everything I offer has been influenced by yoga teachers who have generously shared their wisdom with me over many years (30+). Their teachings have become woven together with my own experiences, my counselling background, my work supporting recovery and healing, and my love of gentle, trauma-sensitive yoga.

One word has stayed with me this week…

Reciprocity.

The quiet exchange of giving and receiving.

The winter sun offers its warmth.
A grandparent shares a skill.
A teacher shares their wisdom.
A friend offers kindness.

We receive these gifts, they become part of us, and in time, we find our own way of passing them on.

As I soaked up this beautiful winter sunshine, I found myself wondering…

✨ What have you gratefully received that has shaped who you are?

✨ And what gift are you now sharing with the world?

If you’re longing for a little space to slow down, breathe and reconnect, I’d love to welcome you to one of my gentle, trauma-sensitive yoga classes here in Port Macquarie. Whether you’re completely new to yoga or returning after some time away, you’ll be warmly welcomed.

šŸ¤ Monday – Rest & Restore
šŸ¤ Thursday – Gentle Holistic Yoga
šŸ¤ Friday – Chair Yoga

You can book via the link in my bio or send me a message if you’d like to know which class might suit you best.

Wishing you a week filled with warmth, gratitude and little moments of sunshine.

Returning to What Matters šŸ¤

This week, like many families, we settled back into the rhythm of school. As a mum, there’s always a quiet sigh of relief when my children are happy, healthy and thriving. School can be a wonderful place to learn and grow, but it can also ask a great deal of our young people.

It reminded me that school isn’t the only environment that can challenge us. Our workplaces, our relationships, our families and even the activities we love can all ask a great deal of us. Life has a way of pulling us in many different directions.

Many of you know me here through Expanding Wings, but some may not know that alongside sharing yoga, I also work in recovery and healing, supporting women and children after domestic and family violence.

Whether I’m sharing yoga in the studio, holding space through Moving with Grief, or walking alongside women in my work, a common thread weaves through it all.

I believe healing begins when we feel safe enough to reconnect with ourselves.

One of the beautiful teachings of yoga is that our suffering often grows when we become disconnected—from ourselves, from the present moment, or from what we truly value. Yoga gently invites us to return.

Sometimes that practice is movement (asana).

Sometimes it is resting (savasana).

Sometimes it is returning to the breath (pranayama).

Sometimes it is simply allowing ourselves to be supported by the earth beneath us.

Sometimes it is having the courage to reach out.

Healing rarely happens in one giant leap. It unfolds gently, moment by moment—in our relationship with ourselves, in safe relationships, in community, and in those precious moments when we feel truly seen.

This week, perhaps we can pause and ask ourselves:

🪷 Does this align with my values?
🪷 Does this bring me peace?

I hope you find a little time this week to return to what matters most.

With warmth,
Michelle šŸ¤

Friday Chair Yoga šŸ¤

Sometimes the most powerful thing we can do is simply arrive.

This Friday we’ll slow down, gently move, breathe, stretch and reconnect with ourselves in a welcoming and supportive space.

Chair Yoga isn’t about flexibility or fitness—it’s about meeting yourself exactly where you are. Whether you’re managing stiffness, recovering from illness or injury, navigating the changes that come with ageing, or simply looking for a gentler way to move, you’re warmly welcome.

Coming Home to Yourself 🌿

Sometimes restoration doesn’t come from one big change.

Sometimes it’s found in many small moments…

A walk by the ocean.
Laughter that makes your cheeks hurt.
Music filling the car.
Time with people you love.
A quiet cup of tea.
A long, slow breath.

Over the holidays I was reminded that these simple moments have a way of bringing us back to ourselves.

As life begins to gather pace again, perhaps this week isn’t about doing more. Perhaps it’s about remembering what helps you feel grounded, nourished and at home within yourself.

🌿 Rest & Restore
Monday | 9.30am

Tomorrow’s 90-minute restorative class is an invitation to slow down, soften and reconnect. Through gentle movement, supported restorative postures and deep relaxation, we’ll explore the theme Coming Home to Yourself.

Because home isn’t always a place.

Sometimes it’s the quiet space within that welcomes you exactly as you are.

I’d love to welcome you into the studio.

This little oak leaf was a gift painted by my Dad on his 80th birthday.

Tucked inside was a note explaining that the oak tree symbolises deep strength, accumulated wisdom and lasting endurance.

Those words have stayed with me.

In life, we often think of wisdom as something we find ā€œout there.ā€ But perhaps wisdom is something that quietly grows within us through every season of life.

It’s found in the challenges we’ve navigated.
The losses we’ve grieved.
The love we’ve shared.
The mistakes we’ve learnt from.
The moments that have shaped who we are.

Wisdom isn’t about having all the answers.

It’s about carrying our experiences with humility, compassion and grace.

May we all continue to cultivate deep strength, accumulated wisdom and lasting endurance—on the yoga mat and beyond.
