A lot of people think getting results means you have to completely cut out foods like pizza, burgers, or dessert. The truth is, for most people, you don’t. I call that living in a box with life on hold temporarily from my personal experience I did over the years in my prep for shows.
Today’s post-workout meal was pizza, and I simply worked it into my daily calorie and macro targets, that works for my goals.
This morning I trained fasted before hitting a heavy chest session. While training fasted doesn’t automatically mean you’ll burn more body fat over the entire day, a hard resistance workout does increase your energy expenditure and contributes to your total daily calorie burn. That gave me enough flexibility to enjoy a couple of slices of pizza while still staying within my nutrition goals.
The key isn’t whether a food is “good” or “bad” it’s whether your overall diet is aligned with your goal.
👉 Want to lose body fat? Stay in a calorie deficit while hitting your protein target.
👉 Want to build muscle? Eat in a controlled calorie surplus with enough protein to support growth.
A sustainable diet is one you can stick to. If you enjoy pizza occasionally and it fits within your daily intake, there’s no reason to feel guilty.
The only time nutrition usually needs to become extremely strict is when someone is preparing for a bodybuilding competition, where every detail matters. For everyone else, flexibility often leads to better long-term consistency and better results in a healthier more flexible diet.
Remember: it’s not about eating perfectly it’s about being consistent towards what your goals are!
