Aphasia can affect how someone communicates, but the things we want to talk about in everyday life don’t change.

In Aphasia Duo, the ‘My Life’ grid sets are designed to support conversations about the things that matter most - from people and places to daily routines, interests and experiences.

This carousel takes you through some of the key areas, showing how communication can be supported in real, meaningful contexts.

Because communication is about more than words - it’s about staying connected to the world around us.

Eye gaze access continues to transform what’s possible for people with complex communication needs, enabling more independent, reliable and meaningful communication in everyday environments.

Speech Pathologists, visit us at Stand 19 at the Speech Pathology Australia conference to try Evo, our most advanced, intelligent eye tracker.

Powerful machine learning algorithms have been trained on real-world scenarios to deliver fast, accurate and responsive performance. Evo works seamlessly for users who wear glasses, have a range of head positions, and use the tracker in a variety of settings and lighting conditions.

Designed for Grid Pad, Evo has been developed specifically with Grid Pad and Grid software in mind, delivering a seamless, intuitive experience.

For speech pathologists, this enables greater confidence when assessing and implementing eye gaze as part of an AAC system, and supports more predictable outcomes for clients across settings.

At the conference, our AAC-specialist speech pathologists and occupational therapists will support you to trial Evo and engage in clinical discussion around:

• Eye gaze assessment
• Setup and positioning considerations
• Integrating eye gaze within broader AAC systems
• Trialling and implementation pathways

Recently, our team came together in Melbourne for our first All Teams Day since joining the Smartbox Family.

Team members travelled from across Australia to connect, collaborate and spend valuable time together in person. We were also delighted to welcome Emma from Smartbox UK , Matthias from Udaption in Germany, and Tomas from our partner in New Zealand, making it a truly international event.

Emma shared updates on the latest developments and initiatives across the global Smartbox network, and we worked together on strategic planning for the future.

Matthias led hands-on training ahead of the launch of our new Udaption mounting range. We’re particularly excited to expand our offering in wheelchair mounting to complement our range of AAC devices and software, bringing holistic solutions to the people and professionals we support.

On the last day, we enjoyed a fun team-building activity, rounding out a great few days.

While we work closely every day from different locations across Australia, there is something special about coming together face-to-face. It was a fantastic time of learning, connection and teamwork, and we're excited about what lies ahead.

“I wish AAC was a common language for everyone that needed it.”

After experiencing a stroke, Michael now lives with aphasia – an acquired language difficulty that can make communication more challenging.

In episode two of Start the Chat podcast, Michael shares more about his experience, and how AAC has supported him in expressing himself and staying connected.

Listen to Michael’s story wherever you catch your podcasts.
