Move to Live - Exercise Physiology

Move to Live - Exercise Physiology Empowering people of all shapes, sizes, ages, abilities, and identities to move more easily and live joyful lives! Meredith

We pride ourselves in meeting our clients where they are at, to achieve goals in a way that works for them. At Move to Live - Exercise Physiology we help people with chronic conditions, diseases, injuries or people who might be at risk of these, to move their bodies and live joyful lives! These conditions can include diabetes, high blood pressure, back pain, arthritis, pre/post surgery, injury recovery, cancer, Multiple Sclerosis, mental health concerns, Parkinson's Disease and many more. As an Accredited Exercise Physiologist, I love helping my clients to develop a positive relationship with movement and their bodies, while helping them to achieve their movement goals and manage their conditions. My clinic is weight-neutral and I work in the Health At Every Size (HAES) paradigm of providing people of all shapes and sizes with healthcare tailored to them and their movement issues. We do not just look at someone's size and blame all of their issues on this one thing, but instead help them with what is truly impacting their life and health with a lens of kindness and compassion. I aim to create a safe space where people can come to move their bodies without fear of judgement, will be truly listened to and their issues will be taken seriously. We don't do diet talk here ... we just focus on helping you move better.
Please feel free to have a squiz at my page, pop down to Port Noarlunga South and see the clinic or to give me a call on 0419 945 436 to chat. I am beyond excited to help you and the ones you care about to move better and look forward to meeting you soon.

A few weeks ago I was lucky enough to head to the 2026 Australia & New Zealand Academy for Eating Disorders Conference to learn all things eating disorders and how to best support some of our most vulnerable people.

What really struck me during this conference was the way the voices and experiences of the marginalised were brought forward across the conference, and that those who are often not considered in eating disorder care and policy were actively and openly talked about and with across the days ... a welcome change.

What also struck me was how long it has taken us to get here. To the point where these vital areas are even being discussed (in honestly, a pretty base level way) by the Austalian and NZ peak body for eating disorders.

Neurodivergent affirming care, tackling weight stigma, cultural competency in treatment, unpacking bias in research, and focusing on literally anyone who isn't thin, white, and young ... these are not new to those who have been doing the work and been yelling this from the rooftops for so many years, and yet for so many these are still radical concepts.

I know that we are all on our own learning journey, and I am but a baby in this area and still have a loooong way to go ... and ... I hope that this is the start of some truly permanent and deep change in the treatment of, research into, and support of those living with eating disorders. Because if not ... if our work doesn't continue to morph to help and support the people who truly need it, we are actively doing harm.

I look forward to seeing what the next steps bring, to see more amazing work being brought into the spotlight, and be a part of big and necessary discussions about eating disorders care.

πŸ–€ Biiiiig kudos and thanks to those who are always doing the work and helping others by sharing their knowledge, lived experience, and learnings. πŸ–€

Also shout out to my bestie who has been with me since I was two years old. So stoked that we get to continue to be awesome together in our professional capacities all these years later. Love ya faceπŸ₯Ή

πŸ’š What do we get up to in our Parkinson's Exercise Group at Move to Live? πŸ’š

Ash is here to talk about our Parkinson's exercise group and how we aim to support those living with this condition through movement, socialisation and dual tasking activities.

These groups run twice per week on Tuesdays and Thursdays at 11:30am and typically run for up to 1 hour.

If you would like to learn more about any of our exercise groups, or if you have any questions, please don't hesitate to reach out to our lovely team!

[Video description: Ash takes us on a journey of what participants regularly experience in our Parkinson's exercise group class. She talks us through how Parkinson's can affect individuals while standing between the new motorised parallel bars in the new accessible Move to Live studio. These bars are often used in the Parkinson's group for balance support.
Ash then demonstrates a dual tasking exercise which consisted of lifting her knee to create a marching action, followed by naming colours of words (for example 'blue', 'red', 'yellow', and so on) that are stuck on a wall in front of her. These words are specifically designed to challenge thinking as they are also on different coloured backgrounds.
The next area includes Ash sitting on a chair and throwing coloured rings onto cones. This aims to challenge, coordination, reaction time, memory and also create a fun environment. In this, Ash misses a cone and indicates that the participants are much better at this task then she appears to be with a laugh.
Ash then speaks about the importance of social connection and how the group can support you on your Parkinson's journey. She does this while walking through a balance task which includes balance foam, hurdles and a wobbleboard.]

Well, I must admit, this is a post I never imagined I would be writing.

In case you haven't seen on the news or social media, there is an influx of AI glasses with filming and recording capabilities on the market. The main issue is that once the recording is done ... where does it go from there and what does the recorder do with it? This has caused many privacy concerns for people, as it is not always obvious that recording is taken place, and there is certainly not up to date and appropriate legislation around this area as of yet.

We have decided that here at Move to Live these recording glasses are not permitted to be worn within our Clinic and Studio spaces by clients, visitors, or our team. We constantly have clients who are having vulnerable chats and attempting to undertake movement in a safe environment, and having recording devices running prevents this safety, exposes them to potential privacy breaches, as well as whatever happens with those recordings after the fact. We are not willing to have this risk in our space.

Please leave any glasses that fall into this category at home. If we suspect you have the glasses on, we will request that you put them back in your car before your appointment. If you do not wish to take off your AI / recording devices, you will not be permitted to undertake your session that day and will need to reschedule. You will see this reflected in our written policies soon.

Now, we do understand that some of this technology has the potential to be life changing for our vision impaired clients, and we are happy to discuss this on a case by case basis in the future as the technology improves. However, the legislation is nowhere near where it needs to be to protect people's privacy and data at this point in time, so this is the decision we have made to maintain our clients' safety and keep Move to Live the delightful space we know and love.

If you have any questions or concerns, please do not hesitate to have a chat.

***This post, and all our posts, is proudly written without AI.***

Today is Wear It Purple Day! A day to show our support and championing of young LGBTIQA+ people in our community and beyond! β€οΈπŸ§‘πŸ’›πŸ’šπŸ’™πŸ©·πŸ’œπŸ€ŽπŸ–€

Unfortunately, many young LBGTIQA+ people still experience extreme bullying, prejudice and stigma, simply for being and expressing who they are, which honestly is beyond unacceptable.

Wear It Purple Day was founded in 2010 as a grass roots movement to outwardly and proudly show support for q***r youth, and to let them know they are, supported, loved, and not alone. The theme for this year is Colours of Courage. β€œCourage is not just expressed in big moments, but in everyday choices to live proudly and invite others into understanding, acceptance and celebration.”

Move to Live is proud to be an LGBTIQA+ affirming practice and support our young (and old) clients to move their bodies in a place that feels safe and welcoming for them.

Standing behind the bed of the reformer, she mentions the benefits of the reformer particularly when experiencing pain or autonomic dysfunction. She demonstrates getting on the reformer bed with head on the headrest, shoulders under the shoulder pads and feet on the footbar. She then demonstrates a double leg press with 2 feet on the footbar that are hip width apart. She also shows a single leg press with one leg lifted into the air while one leg is pushing on the bar. She also shows a side lying press which looks like a single leg press while lying on your side. And finally Glenys demonstrates a straight arm pulldown using the ropes at the top of the reformer, and a tricep press where her elbows remained tucked in. Glenys then demonstrates getting off the reformer where she rolls her legs off first which then helps her body to follow.]

Did you know that we offer our fabulous hydrotherapy on BOTH Tuesdays (with Ira and Jaz) and Fridays (with Meredith)? 🐳
Our clients receive an individual and tailored movement program. This means we can work on your specific goals, while taking into account your limitations.
We have the options of shared sessions with other fabulous clients, or individual sessions where you get Ira, Jaz, or Meredith and their terrible jokes all to yourself!
Worried about the water? Never fear! The pool is 0.9 - 1.2m deep so your head doesn't need to go under the water, and it is kept a toasty 32 degrees which is warm enough to not freeze your bits ... but cool enough to not overheat while moving our bodies!
