Now offering diabetes and gestational diabetes support near Googong, Jerrabomberra, Queanbeyan and surrounding suburbs!

We’re pleased to welcome Capital Diabetes Collective to Rutledge Family Medical Centre. See your GP to book a referral.

From Saturday 11 April, Capital Diabetes Collective will be consulting from our clinic twice a month on Saturday mornings, providing local access to diabetes education and support for patients in Queanbeyan, Googong, Jerrabomberra and surrounding areas.

Support may include:
• Type 1 diabetes
• Type 2 diabetes
• Gestational diabetes
• Regular diabetes reviews
• Insulin management
• Continuous glucose monitoring
• Insulin pump support
• Diabetes education for individuals, families and carers

This service may be helpful for patients who are newly diagnosed, adjusting treatment, navigating diabetes during pregnancy, or looking for additional support with day-to-day diabetes management.

☀️ Sun safety matters — especially in summer

Australia has one of the highest rates of skin cancer in the world, and more than two in three Australians (about 66%) will be diagnosed with some form of skin cancer in their lifetime. That’s mostly due to our high UV levels and a long outdoor culture here.

With temperatures still strong during January, it’s a great time to remember that sun protection isn’t just for the beach, it matters on all bright days:
• 👒 Wear a broad-brimmed hat and protective clothing
• 🧴 Use broad-spectrum sunscreen (SPF 30+ or higher)
• 🌤 Seek shade, especially between 10am–4pm
• 😎 Don’t forget sunglasses

While many skin cancers are highly treatable when found early, prevention and regular checks help reduce the risk of more serious outcomes. If you’ve noticed a new or changing spot on your skin, or you’re due for a skin check, our team at Rutledge Family Medical Centre is here to help.

🏖 School holidays, big days & little bugs

School holidays often mean later nights, busy days, swimming, sleepovers - and sometimes the odd cough, sore ear, tummy bug, or rash that pops up at the most inconvenient time.

While many minor illnesses settle on their own, it’s okay to have things checked, especially in babies and young children. Trust your instincts - if something doesn’t feel right, early advice can provide reassurance and help prevent things from worsening.
