One of the most common reasons people put off therapy is the belief that they need to be at crisis point before seeking help.

You don't.

Therapy supports people navigating everyday stress, relationship difficulties, major life transitions, burnout, and the quiet weight of things that are hard to articulate but harder to carry alone.

A good psychologist won't minimise what brings you in. Whatever your reason for seeking support, it's worth taking seriously.

If you've been on the fence, this might be the nudge you needed.

For a lot of people, the path to an ADHD assessment starts the same way.

Years of trying harder. Wondering why things that seem effortless for others feel so much more difficult. Quietly wondering if something else is going on - but not feeling certain enough to find out.

Assessment isn't about confirming you're struggling. It's about understanding why and what that means for the way you work, learn, and live.

That clarity can change a lot.

One of the most common questions we get asked.

Do I need a referral to book an assessment?

The short answer is no. You can reach out to us directly and we will guide you from there.

That said, a referral from your GP, psychologist, or specialist is helpful. It gives our clinicians useful context before the assessment begins, and in some cases, such as Autism assessments for those under 25, a referral from a paediatrician or psychiatrist allows you to claim a Medicare rebate.

If you have been wondering whether an assessment is the right next step, you do not need to wait for a referral to find out.

There is no single therapy that works for everyone.

At Aperture Psychology, our clinicians draw on a range of evidence-based approaches including Cognitive Behavioural Therapy, EMDR, Schema Therapy, Dialectical Behaviour Therapy, and mindfulness-based therapies.

The approach used depends on you — your history, your goals, and what the evidence suggests is most likely to help.

If you have been wondering whether therapy might be the right next step, you do not need to have it all worked out before reaching out. That is what the first session is for.

Mother's Day can bring a lot of different feelings.

For some, it's warmth and celebration. For others, it's complicated. Grief, estrangement, loss, fertility challenges, or simply a relationship that doesn't fit the greeting card version — these experiences are real, and they're more common than the day tends to acknowledge.

To everyone celebrating today, we hope it's filled with warmth and connection.

And to those for whom it's a harder day - your feelings make sense too. Be gentle with yourself.

Happy Mother's Day.

We're looking for a Senior Clinical Psychologist to join the Aperture team across our Randwick and Marrickville practices.

It's a part-time salaried role with a mix of direct clinical work with adolescents and adults, and mentoring of early-career psychologists and registrars. If you're a clinician who values strong support, good supervision, and a team that takes the work seriously - we'd love to hear from you.

ANZAC Day is a time of remembrance.

For many, it carries personal meaning. For others, it’s a moment to reflect more broadly on service, sacrifice, and its lasting impact.

Today, we acknowledge that with respect.

Lest we forget.

Many of the people we work with are incredibly capable.

They show up for others, support their teams, and hold themselves to a high standard.

But the way they speak to themselves can be very different.

More critical. Less patient. Harder to switch off.

Over time, that kind of internal pressure can start to take a toll.

Therapy isn’t about lowering the bar. It’s about changing the way you relate to yourself while still moving forward.

If this resonates, our team is here to support you - book an appointment via our website or call (02) 9314 5376.
