Choosing a decision maker: It helps you pick a trusted person to make medical choices for you if you lose the ability to decide. ⚕️

Relieving stress: It removes doubt and guilt for your family by making your personal values and goals clear.😥

Preventing unwanted care: It can reduce unwanted hospital stays or life prolonging treatments at the end of life 🚑

ADHD care is changing in Western Australia

Livingston Medical is pleased to announce an important expansion of ADHD care across our practices.

Dr Michael Livingston is now one of just 65 GPs in Western Australia trained through the WA GP ADHD program to assess, diagnose and treat ADHD in suitable patients aged 10 years and over.

For many Western Australians, particularly those living rurally, accessing ADHD assessment and treatment has traditionally meant long waiting lists, significant travel and substantial private costs.

This new pathway gives suitable patients another option.

Our ADHD service can provide:

• Comprehensive ADHD assessment from age 10 years
• Diagnosis by a specially trained Specialist GP
• Individualised treatment planning
• ADHD medication initiation and management where clinically appropriate
• Ongoing monitoring and follow-up
• Shared-care and co-prescribing arrangements where appropriate
• Telehealth and face-to-face appointments
• Care for patients across Perth and regional Western Australia

For existing Livingston Medical patients

Getting started is simple.

Make your first appointment with your usual local Livingston Medical GP.

If you already have a GP

If your usual GP is happy and able to participate in shared care, we can work with them as part of your ongoing ADHD management.

If your GP is unable to prescribe ADHD medication, or simply does not wish to participate in prescribing, Livingston Medical may be able to provide shared-care co-prescribing and medication management for suitable patients. This allows you to continue seeing your regular GP for your broader healthcare while Livingston Medical assists with the ADHD specific prescribing and monitoring components of your care.

If you are already under a psychiatrist or paediatrician

If you are currently being managed under a shared-care arrangement with a psychiatrist or paediatrician, you must continue with that specialist for ADHD diagnosis, medication review or medication dose changes while that shared-care arrangement remains in place.

Care may be able to be transferred to Livingston Medical, but this needs to occur formally and should be a discussion between you, your treating specialist and our medical team.

Please do not simply stop specialist follow up and book with us for a medication change.

A proper clinical assessment

This is not a “quick diagnosis” or “quick script” service.

ADHD symptoms can overlap with a number of psychiatric, developmental and medical conditions. Every patient undergoes a proper clinical assessment and medication is only prescribed when it is safe, appropriate and clinically indicated.

Who this pathway is not suitable for

The GP ADHD pathway is designed for uncomplicated ADHD.

Some presentations require the additional expertise and involvement of a psychiatrist.

We are currently unable to provide ADHD diagnosis or medication management through this pathway for patients with:

• Psychosis or a psychotic disorder, including previous drug-induced psychosis
• Bipolar disorder, Type I or Type II
• Current substance use disorder
• Autism Spectrum Disorder requiring very substantial support, Level 3
• Intellectual disability
• Anorexia nervosa

Other significant or complex mental health presentations may also require psychiatrist assessment. Having one of these conditions does not mean that you cannot have ADHD or cannot receive treatment for ADHD. It means that your assessment and treatment needs to involve the appropriate specialist so that your care can be provided safely.

Who can we see?

Adults and young people aged 10 years and over from across Western Australia may enquire about assessment.

Telehealth and face to face care are available, subject to clinical suitability and Medicare requirements.

Livingston Medical has always believed that living in rural and remote Western Australia should not mean accepting poorer access to healthcare.

This is another important step towards changing that.

That's why we're proud to run our Aboriginal Health Clinics in the Great Southern.
📍 Kojonup: every Tuesday, 10am–1pm
📍 Gnowangerup: every Wednesday, 10am–1pm (currently fortnightly, and increasing to weekly very soon! 🎉)

Our clinics offer a warm, welcoming and bulk-billed service for all First Nations people, delivered by a team who genuinely care.

A special shout-out to our wonderful Practice Nurse, Kate, whose dedication to our Gnowangerup community shines through 🌟
We were also lucky enough this week to spend time with Elvis, one of our respected Noongar Elders, who came along to the clinic (thank you, Elvis, for kindly allowing us to share your photo! 📸).

And we have some wonderful news to share. We've now secured diphtheria booster vaccines for our Aboriginal community members in Gnowangerup! 🙌 While these boosters have become available to all Aboriginal people across WA, access in regional areas like ours has been limited, so we're thrilled to be able to offer them right here, close to home. That means our mob no longer needs to travel to the city to stay protected. 💪

This is what community healthcare is all about: meeting people where they are, honouring culture, and making sure no one gets left behind.

Dr Nunn is joining the Livingston Medical team of Rural Generalists this week.

Elliot is WA trained and has special interests in mental health support, paediatrics and palliative care as well as of course, emergency medicine.

You'll see Dr Nunn across our Great Southern Sites in General Practice and the local hospitals commencing this week.

We are so happy to announce another new Doctor for the region.

Dr Alex Lugg is a Rural Generalist with lots of experience and a true passion for rural medicine.

Dr Lugg is going to be working across a number of our Livingston Medical sites and emergency departments/hospitals in the Great Southern and Wheatbelt and is excited to get to know the communities before settling down in a permanent location within the Livingston Medical Network.

We are sure that the very charismatic Alex will be a very popular Doctor and will be appreciated by the communities he serves over the coming months and years

A huge thank you to Dr Elizabeth Dernie and our Registered Nurse, Shannon Waters for your commitment to your community this weekend.

Dr Dernie and Nurse Shannon were up at the crack of dawn in this chilly weather to assist at the Mt Marshall Gravel Grind cycling event.

Following in the footsteps of our Gnowangerup team, our northern Wheatbelt medics offered onsite support for this event, working collaboratively with St John’s and many other committed community members

Livingston Medical are pleased to announce another new Doctor for Ravensthorpe and Hopetoun. Dr Noman will work alongside Dr Menon and Dr Reddy, enabling us to open more days in each location in the coming months.

We anticipate by September to be open at least 3 days per week in Ravensthorpe and upto 5 days per week in Hopetoun. and also offer extra assistance with emergencies, inpatients and our aged care residents at the local Ravensthorpe hospital.

Welcome Dr Liz Dernie to the Livingston Medical team.

Dr Dernie is a Rural Generalist (RG) and GP Obstetrician (GPO) who like Dr Perry is bringing advanced procedural skills to the communities that need them most. She will be working across our Kununoppinand Mukinbudin clinics.

This is what improving outcomes and access actually looks like. Not a press release. Not a review. Not a taskforce. A doctor, on the ground, in the Wheatbelt.

Rural Generalists with obstetric training are among the rarest and most valuable doctors in Australia. Recruiting them to towns of a few hundred people takes years of work, real investment, and a team worth joining.

Livingston Medical did this with zero help from WA Labor or the Australian Labor Party. No incentives. No support. No partnership. While governments talk about the rural health crisis, we just keep working tirelessly to find the right doctors for the right locations.

Kununoppin and beyond you deserve the same standard of care as anyone in Perth, and we intend to deliver it.

Well thank you Frank Finger for the “reveal”…

But the real hero in this story is Natalie Mollett.

On 13/02/2026 Livingston Medical was tagged in a post by Natalie. The post itself came from mustering master and rural advocate Frank Finger.

It was the same story we hear far too often across rural and remote Australia.

Another country town.
Another community forgotten.
Another town fighting to keep basic healthcare alive.

The sort of story city Australia scrolls past in seconds, but one that means everything when you live hundreds of kilometres from the nearest major centre, when your nearest doctor leaves, when your elderly parents cannot drive 5 hours for care, when farmers are forced to choose between harvest and their own health.

So we reached out. Quietly.

Not for headlines.
Not for politics.
Not for grants or government photo opportunities.

Just to listen.

Because this situation is not unusual anymore. In fact, it has become the norm across rural Australia.

The tragedy is that while communities are desperate for doctors, we already have doctors ready to work. Skilled rural minded clinicians waiting in the wings. The issue has never been willingness. The issue has always been systems, support and people actually prepared to back rural communities properly.

After discussions behind the scenes, Clermont4Doctors and ClermontCONNECT CQ we were kindly invited to look at the situation in person. It was meant to be a quiet, respectful and discreet review of what could potentially be done.

Then Frank blew the roof off it.

And honestly… good.

Because rural Australia deserves to be heard.

For 12 years Livingston Medical has been fighting to prove the rural healthcare crisis is not impossible to solve. We were told it could not be done. We were told rural medicine was dying. We were told doctors would never stay.

Yet here we are.

Still standing.
Still growing.
Still backing small towns.
Still driving thousands of kilometres.
Still answering phones after hours.
Still covering emergencies.
Still turning up where others walked away.

Not because it is easy.
Not because it is profitable.
But because rural Australians deserve the same dignity, safety and access to healthcare as anyone living in a capital city.

Farmers feeding the nation should not have to beg for a GP.
Mining towns keeping the economy alive should not have collapsing health services.
Remote families should not feel abandoned because of their postcode.

This fight matters.

And we will keep showing up for rural and remote communities for as long as communities want us there.

Supporting those who support all of us, showing up where others won’t together with those that will, as one.
