Today we thought we'd share a little glimpse into our social groups! 🌈

Over the past few terms, we've had the pleasure of running a range of social groups designed to help our little ones build confidence, develop friendships, practise communication skills, and learn through play in a fun and supportive environment.

Social groups provide opportunities for children to practise taking turns, sharing ideas, solving problems together, and developing the social skills they need for everyday life.

Here is a photo capturing one of the wonderful moments we've shared together. 💙

Developing phonological awareness (PA) skills through fun, engaging activities 🎧📚

PA skills help children hear and play with sounds in words — an important foundation for reading and spelling. We can target skills like:
🔹 Rhyming
🔹 Syllable clapping
🔹 Identifying beginning sounds
🔹 Blending sounds together
🔹 Breaking words into sounds

The best learning happens through play, movement, books, and everyday interactions 💛

SPA Week Day 7 - The Possibility to Thrive
🍓🍽️ Feeding difficulties can impact much more than mealtimes. They can affect a child’s nutrition, growth, participation in family activities, social experiences and overall wellbeing, while also creating stress for parents and caregivers.

Speech Pathologists support children and families using Responsive Feeding approaches that focus on creating positive, safe, and pressure-free mealtime experiences. Through play, exploration and positive food experiences, we help children build confidence and develop a healthy relationship with food at their own pace.

Because feeding is about more than eating, it is about connection, participation, and quality of life. Every child deserves the possibility to thrive.

SPA Week Day 6- The Possibility to Participate

Participation allows children to engage in the activities, relationships, and experiences that matter most to them. Speech Pathologists support communication across settings, including preschool, home, and the community, helping children take part in learning, play, and social interactions.

Here we are working alongside children and educators at Windsor Preschool, supporting communication and participation through play and everyday learning opportunities. Every child deserves the possibility to participate. By supporting communication, we create opportunities for children to engage, connect and belong.

SPA Week Day 5- The Possibility to Choose

Communication is more than spoken words. Every child communicates in their own way, whether through speech, gestures, facial expressions, visuals, communication devices, or a combination of these.

Speech Pathologists support children to develop the skills and tools they need to express their preferences, make decisions, and participate in everyday life.
Supports such as visual schedules and communication systems help children share their ideas, indicate what they want, and take an active role in their world.

Every child deserves the possibility to choose. By supporting communication in all its forms, we create opportunities for children to build independence, autonomy, and meaningful participation at home, school, and in their communities.

SPA Week Day 4- The Possibility to Belong

Everyone deserves the opportunity to connect, contribute, and be heard. Through Augmentative and Alternative Communication (AAC), Speech Pathologists support people to communicate their thoughts, make choices, build relationships, and participate in everyday life.

Belonging starts with being able to share your voice. Every person deserves the possibility to belong. By supporting access to communication, we create opportunities for meaningful participation and connection.

SPA Week Day 3- The Possibility to Grow

Growth doesn't always look loud. At The Speech Co, we work with children at every stage of their communication journey, including children with selective mutism, where anxiety can make speaking feel impossible in certain situations.

Sometimes progress looks like whispering to a friend for the first time. Ordering at a cafe. Answering a question in class. These moments might seem small from the outside. But for the children we work with, they're everything.

As Speech Pathologists, our role is to meet children exactly where they are. We slowly and gently build the skills, strategies, and confidence that help them find their voice on their own terms, in their own time. Because communication skills aren't just about talking. They're about independence, connection, and the courage to show up and be heard.

SPA Week Day 2- The Possibility to Learn

Literacy is more than just reading and writing. Literacy opens the door to learning, participation, and opportunity. Speech pathologists support the building blocks of literacy, including phonological awareness, reading, spelling, vocabulary, comprehension, and written language.

These skills help children access learning, express their ideas, and build relationships. Every child deserves the possibility to learn. By supporting literacy development, we create opportunities for children to thrive at school, home, and in their communities.
