Often we have clients coming in for a remedial massage with a specific injury wanting us to go in harder on the painful area.
We also see clients who tell us they have been left with bruising after having massages that were too hard.
Massage doesn't have to be painful to be effective.
While deep pressure feels nice, going in too hard and deep in certain areas can make pain and inflammantion worse, and lead to bruising.
You can't force a muscle to relax.
Massage works by helping the muscles and nervous sytem to relax, reduces tension in the fascia and by doing so reduces pain, improves movement and supports the healing of damaged tissue.
So by all means go hard.
Just choose where and when to go hard.
