Robertson Doctor

Robertson Doctor The local general practice in Robertson village. Great friendly practice with an emphasis on family

We are trying to make a positive difference to how primary care interacts with it's communities and how communities interact with their health. It's a work in progress, but at this stage I feel it's time to open this conversation up to the community. I hope this FB page will be part of an ongoing conversation about our health.

We are pleased to advise that we now have stock of the new RSV vaccine, AREXVY®, available through the National Immunisation Program (NIP).

Who is eligible for a FREE RSV vaccine under the NIP?
✅ Adults aged 75 years and over

What is RSV?
Respiratory Syncytial Virus (RSV) is a highly contagious respiratory virus that can cause serious illness in older adults, including pneumonia, breathing difficulties, hospitalisation, and complications for those with underlying health conditions.

The Australian Government has recently added AREXVY® to the National Immunisation Program to help protect older Australians who are at higher risk of severe RSV disease.

Vaccination is especially important heading into the colder months, when respiratory viruses become more common in the community.

☀️ March is Melanoma Awareness Month

Australia has one of the highest rates of skin cancer in the world, but the good news is that melanoma can often be successfully treated when detected early.

This March, during Melanoma March, we encourage everyone to take a moment to check their skin and book a skin check with their GP if they notice anything new or changing.

🔎 Know what to look for – the ABCDE signs of melanoma:
• A – Asymmetry: one half doesn’t match the other
• B – Border: irregular, ragged or blurred edges
• C – Colour: uneven colour or multiple shades
• D – Diameter: larger than 6mm (about the size of a pencil eraser)
• E – Evolving: changing in size, shape, colour or symptoms

🌞 Protect your skin every day:
✔ Slip on protective clothing
✔ Slop on SPF 50+ sunscreen
✔ Slap on a hat
✔ Seek shade
✔ Slide on sunglasses

If you have a spot that looks different from the rest or has changed recently, don’t wait – book a skin check with our team. Early detection saves lives.

📞 Contact reception to make an appointment.

🌍 World Cancer Day – 4 February 🌍

Today we recognise World Cancer Day, a global day to raise awareness, encourage prevention, and support those affected by cancer.

Cancer can touch anyone — whether personally, through a loved one, or within our wider community. While not all cancers can be prevented, early detection, regular health checks, and open conversations with your GP can make a real difference.

This World Cancer Day, we encourage you to:
• Attend regular health screenings
• Pay attention to changes in your body
• Seek medical advice if something doesn’t feel right
• Support and show kindness to those affected

Our team is here to support you with preventative care, screenings, and ongoing health concerns.

Together, through awareness and early action, we can make a difference. 💛

📞 To book an appointment, please contact the practice or book online.

💙 February is Ovarian Cancer Awareness Month 💙

Ovarian cancer is often called the “silent” cancer because its symptoms can be vague and easily overlooked. Awareness is key to early detection.

Some symptoms to be mindful of include:
• Persistent bloating
• Abdominal or pelvic pain
• Feeling full quickly or difficulty eating
• Changes in bowel or bladder habits
• Ongoing fatigue

If these symptoms are new, persistent, or worsening, it’s important to speak with your GP.

Early conversations can make a difference. If you’re concerned about your symptoms or have a family history of ovarian or related cancers, our doctors are here to support you.

Let’s keep the conversation going and help spread awareness this February. 💙
