Are you running with a niggle that just won’t go away?
One of the hardest things for runners is knowing the difference between a normal training ache and an injury that shouldn’t be ignored.
Not every pain means you need to stop running, but there are some patterns worth paying attention to:
• Pain that keeps returning in the same area
• Pain that starts earlier and earlier into your run
• Pain that “warms up” but comes back later
• Pain that lingers after running or is still there the next morning
• Pain that is getting progressively worse from week to week
The earlier we identify what’s causing your pain, the easier it is to make sensible changes to your training and keep you running where possible.
We’ve just published a new article looking specifically at bone stress injuries and stress fractures in runners, one important cause of persistent running pain that can initially be easy to dismiss.
