This World Hepatitis Day (28 July), put your liver health first.

Nearly 50,000 Queenslanders are living with hepatitis B or hepatitis C, and many don't know they have it. Left undiagnosed or untreated, viral hepatitis can lead to serious liver damage, but the good news is that it can be prevented, managed and, in the case of hepatitis C, cured.

Take action for your liver and your life. Test. Treat. Defeat hepatitis.

Learn more, check your risk and take the liver health quiz at www.defeathepatitis.au.

Dr Kym and Mitch are off on the Sh*tbox Rally this Friday, starting in Port Douglas!

To the volunteers from both KSM & Toyota Landcruiser Club who helped with the recent Bunnings sausage sizzle and to all those who came down to grab a snag - THANK YOU! 👏

You contribution has helped raise another (just under) $3000 for Cancer Council Australia, bringing Team Medical 1's tally to over $10,000 👏

Best of luck on the rally, Kym & Mitch! 🚙

Happy Monday, everyone 📢

Due to school holidays & doctors taking some well-earned leave, we are fully booked for the next 2 weeks.

If you wanted to try your luck, you could call when we open at 8am each morning as we may have had a cancellation overnight.

🩺 In the interim, 13 SICK (13 74 25) are available between 6pm and 8am M-F, after 12pm on Saturday and all day Sunday.

🩹 There are two Minor Injury & Illness Clinics local to us - Eight Mile Plains (Levington Road) and Meadowbrook (across from Logan Hospital) - open 8am to 10pm every day.

🩸 There are also a few bulk billed urgent care clinics nearby - Browns Plains, Capalaba and Carina/Carindale.

As always, if it's an emergency call 000 🚨🚨🚨

Thank you for your understanding 🫶

Just a reminder that tomorrow, July 1st, Medicare requires patients to sign a Bulk Billing consent for every appointment - this can be either a physical signature in clinic, or a digital signature. Digital "signatures" can be provided by clicking the link emailed or text messaged to you.

Please make sure we have your email address on file for digital signatures, or to see reception staff to physically sign a consent at the end of your appointment.

❗️IMPORTANT NOTICE 🗣️
Changes to Medicare Assignment of Benefit (AoB)

From the 1st of July, Medicare is introducing changes to the way bulk-billed consultations and services are processed.

Verbal consent (being asked "are you happy to be bulk billed today?") is no longer compliant.

We are required to have a written agreement, with an electronic or physical signature from the patient or responsible person (parent, carer) and an agreement is required for every individual appointment.

This is a legal requirement set by Medicare and applies to all medical practices.

What does this mean for you?

You will receive an email and/or SMS before or after your appointment requesting your consent to assign your benefit to your doctor (bulk bill). This message will come from HotDoc, and will ask you to confirm the patient's surname and date of birth.

Your consent allows us to submit the bulk-billing claim directly to Medicare on your behalf. If consent is not received, we will be unable to process the claim, and your doctor will not be paid for their time in treating you.

Enduring consent is a work-in-progress (TBC 2027)

We appreciate your understanding and patience as we navigate the new changes, and welcome any questions or concerns.
