Mahali Therapy

Mahali Therapy Why Mahali Therapy? Mahali means "place"—I believe that a person’s healing journey begins in an environment where you feel comfortable and safe. A safe space.
(1)

Mahali Therapy provides Psychotherapy and Clinical Hypnotherapy, supporting community sector professionals, foster carers, people in caring roles, adults transitioning into adulthood following a care experience, and anyone seeking meaningful change. Perhaps that place is in a therapy room, or maybe it’s sitting in a local park, a quiet room at the library, walking through nature, your favourite coffee shop, or connecting online from home. That's why Mahali Therapy offers flexible therapy spaces tailored to your comfort, preferences and individual needs, alongside secure telehealth available Australia-wide. Because therapy isn't just about the conversation—it's also about finding the place where you feel most able to be yourself. A Little About Me:

Hi I'm Tamara, your personal therapist, and for more than 19 years, I've had the privilege of working alongside children, young people, adults and families across the community sector. Throughout my career, I've supported people navigating trauma, significant life changes, complex family situations, disability, child protection and the everyday challenges that come with caring for others. I've also worked closely with the professionals who support them—people who often carry enormous responsibility while quietly putting their own wellbeing last. These experiences have shaped not only the therapist I am today, but also the heart behind Mahali Therapy. Why I created Mahali Therapy:

After many years working within community services, I saw a common thread. The people who spend their lives supporting others often struggle to find the time, space and permission to care for themselves. Community sector professionals, foster carers, disability workers, youth workers, support coordinators, parents and carers often carry incredible emotional loads while continuing to show up for everyone else. Mahali Therapy was created to support those people—while also welcoming anyone ready to create meaningful change in their own life. Because everyone deserves a place where they don't have to be the strong one. My approach:

I provide Psychotherapy and Clinical Hypnotherapy, tailoring each session to your goals, experiences and preferences. My approach is warm, practical and collaborative. Whether we're working through stress, burnout, anxiety, trauma, confidence, relationships, life transitions or personal growth, therapy is about helping you better understand yourself while building practical strategies for lasting change. I believe therapy should fit around your life—not the other way around—which is why I offer flexible therapy spaces alongside secure online sessions throughout Australia. My hope for you:

Whether you're a professional supporting others, a foster carer, a person in a caring role, someone transitioning into adulthood following a care experience, or simply navigating one of life's many challenges, my hope is that you'll find a place where you feel heard, understood, supported and empowered to move forward. Real support. Meaningful change. Guidance * Growth * Strength

What is Clinical Hypnotherapy?

Clinical Hypnotherapy offers a calm, focused space where you remain aware, involved and in control throughout the experience.

It isn’t about being asleep or having someone take control of your mind. Instead, hypnosis may help you work with the more automatic thoughts, emotional responses and patterns that can sometimes feel difficult to shift through conscious effort alone.

Hypnotherapy can be experienced in different ways. Clinical Hypnotherapy may involve a more structured, focused process, while Conversational Hypnotherapy can be gently incorporated into the therapeutic conversation through carefully chosen language, questions and imagery.

Both approaches are collaborative, and hypnosis is always optional. Your choice, consent and sense of control remain at the centre of every session.

If you’re curious about whether Clinical or Conversational Hypnotherapy could support the changes you’re seeking, you’re welcome to contact Mahali Therapy for a confidential conversation.

Connection is at the heart of human wellbeing.

Yet relationships—with work colleagues, partners, family, friends or even ourselves—can sometimes feel complicated and exhausting.

Past experiences, unmet needs, communication difficulties and protective patterns can leave us feeling disconnected, misunderstood or unsure how to move forward.

5 simple ways to strengthen connection

1. Be fully present
Put distractions aside and give the other person your genuine attention.

2. Listen to understand
Try to hear the feelings and needs behind their words rather than preparing your response.

3. Express appreciation
Regularly acknowledge the little things you value about the other person.

4. Communicate your needs clearly
Others cannot always know what you need. Honest, respectful communication reduces misunderstandings and resentment.

5. Make time for meaningful moments
Connection often grows through small, consistent moments—not only grand gestur

Healthy connection doesn’t require perfection. It grows when we feel heard, valued, understood and emotionally safe.

If you’re ready to strengthen your relationships—or reconnect with yourself, Psychotherapy provides a supportive space to explore these experiences at a conscious level. It can help you understand your needs, recognise recurring patterns, strengthen communication and develop healthier ways of relating to yourself and others.

🌱Support that fits in with your life🌱

Therapy doesn’t always have to be in an office or in an unfamiliar room.

Online and phone therapy allows you to access support from a place where you feel comfortable—whether that’s at home, in your office, or somewhere suitable that works for you.

Sessions can take place by video or a regular phone call, depending on what feels most appropriate and accessible for you.

It can offer:

🌿 Greater flexibility around work and caring responsibilities
🌿 No travel time or added costs
🌿 Access to support from anywhere in Australia
🌿 The comfort of choosing your own private space
🌿 Different ways to connect, including phone or video
🌿 More choice when finding the right therapist for you

For busy professionals, carers, parents, or anyone who finds attending in person difficult, remote therapy can make support accessible anywhere as it's flexible to meet your needs.

At Mahali Therapy, our time together is designed to meet you where you are—both emotionally and practically.

If online or phone therapy feels like it could suit you, you’re welcome to get in touch for a confidential conversation and have a chat.

Is psychotherapy the right fit for you?

🌿 Thankyou for wanting to learn more about Psychotherapy...this is sometimes the first step to seeking support; finding the right fit for you is important. 🌿

🌼 Psychotherapy is more than simply talking about what's going on. It's an opportunity to understand yourself more deeply — the way you think, the way you respond, the patterns you've developed over time, and what might be keeping you feeling stuck.

🌼 Sometimes we know exactly what we want to change, but knowing isn't always enough. You might recognise that you need to slow down, stop overthinking, set better boundaries or respond differently — yet still find yourself falling back into the same familiar patterns.

🌼 Strategic Psychotherapy can help identify and explore these patterns at a conscious level, building greater awareness of what may be maintaining them and developing new perspectives, strategies and ways of responding.

🌼 While Strategic Psychotherapy can support the conscious understanding of a pattern, Clinical Hypnotherapy can address the unconscious processes associated with it — the thoughts, connections, habits and responses that can sometimes seem to happen before we've consciously chosen them.

🌼 Used together, these approaches can support the process of interrupting old patterns at both a conscious and unconscious level, reinforcing new responses, and creating opportunities for new learning and more helpful patterns to develop over time.

Therefore, while hypnosis is always optional, your therapist may explore with you the benefits of a dual approach based on your individual needs, preferences and comfort to determine if integrated therapeutic models may be the most appropriate pathway for support.

However, Strategic Psychotherapy is a powerful modality that supports meaningful reflection, exploration, and change, even without the integration of Clinical Hypnotherapy.

A little reminder to pause ⛱️

This week I have travelled back to my old stomping ground, back to beautiful Yeppoon and its georgous beaches.

I spent some time here at Kemp beach during my busy day and gave myself permission to just stop and be in the present moment.

🌊 I listened to the waves rolling onto the sand
☀️ I felt the warmth of the sun upon my face
🐚 I wandered along the water's edge and picked up a shell that caught my eye

Nothing extraordinary happened.

But for those few minutes, I wasn't thinking about my problems, what I needed to do next, what I hadn't finished, or who needed something from me.

I was just there.

And sometimes, that's exactly what our nervous system needs.

We spend so much of our lives rushing from one thing to the next, carrying responsibilities, thinking ahead and looking after everyone around us, that we can forget what it feels like to simply be present.

Mindfulness doesn't have to mean meditation or finding complete silence.

✨️Sometimes it is just listening to the waves.
✨️Feeling the sun on your face.
✨️Holding a shell in your hand.
✨️Taking in your surroundings

It's allowing your mind and body to realise:

Right now, in this moment, I can just be here.

What did your last moment to pause look like?
Perhaps it's in the garden, perhaps it's driving home in the car, maybe it's that morning shower before the day gets busy.

I'd love to hear where you find your moments of calm.

And if you feel like its been a long time since you've taken a moment like this, a moment to just stop and pause, then maybe that's worth noticing to.

Your nervous system might need it more than you realise.

So wherever you are today, see if you can find your own little moment of mindfulness.

Even if it's only for a minute.

PS: Special shoutout to my good friend Lynne who encouraged me to get to the beach and do a little mindfulness of my own :-)

🌻Reasons I love being a therapist🌻

🌱 Therapy is always about being client centred and empowering people to have choice and control in their lives.

🌱 Every person has their own story and brings with them their personal strengths, challenges and hopes for what life could look like.

🌱 Because of this, I get to meet amazing people and walk alongside them for part of their journey.

🌱 It is when hope starts to return, when pathways forward are discovered and when something shifts that possibilities they couldn't see before now come to light.

🌱 Breakthrough moments are different for everyone...they can big impacts or small steps but they lead to feeling a little more confident, coping better, understanding yourself differently, or simply realising that things don't have to stay the way they are and that's important.

🌱 Being able to see transformation and growth and gently supporting and guiding along the way is a beautiful experience for me as a therapist, and I love seeing meaningful and lasting change unfolding.

🌱 And honestly, I learn something from everyone too.

What do your first moments of a morning look like?

Before getting ready for work?
Before getting kids off to school?
Before giving to everyone else?

How you start your day matters. A calm beginning may not remove every challenge of the day, but giving yourself permission to start the day with intention can set you in the right direction.

Even my chickens know there is some value in enjoying the morning .... perhaps you might enjoy a cuppa in the warm sunshine this morning as you take a moment to pause?

You don't need a perfect morning routine, but just a quiet moment that's yours :-)

Every business has a story.......

Mahali is a Swahili word meaning "place."

I felt like it was the right name, because therapy isn't just about the conversation—it's about feeling safe enough to have it.

At Mahali Therapy, I believe meaningful change begins when people feel safe, understood, and accepted just as they are.

Sometimes that place is your local park.

Sometimes it's a quiet corner of your favourite café.

Sometimes it's your workplace, your local library, or another space where you feel comfortable.

Because the right place looks different for everyone.

Wherever that place is for you, my goal is the same:

To create a space where you can pause, reflect, reconnect with your strengths, and move forward with greater clarity and confidence.

Because meaningful change doesn't begin with having all the answers.

It begins with finding the right place to start.

Support for People who Support Everyone Else.

When you're the one everyone relies on, it can be easy to forget that you need support too.

Every day, you show up for others.

You navigate complex situations, make difficult decisions, carry responsibility, and support people through some of life's most challenging moments. Much of what you do happens quietly, behind the scenes, yet it has a profound impact on the lives of others.

It's meaningful work—but it can also be emotionally demanding.

At Mahali Therapy, I provide support for the people who support everyone else.

Whether you're a community sector professional, support coordinator, case manager, disability support worker, child protection practitioner, youth worker, mental health worker, foster or kinship carer, or another helping professional, you deserve a space that's just for you.

A space to pause.

To reflect.

To process what's been sitting quietly in the background.

To build resilience, reconnect with your strengths, and move forward with greater clarity and confidence.

Because the people who hold space for others deserve a space of their own.
