Rural Health Connect is a website and app which connects rural Australians to psychologists and other health professionals, using video-conferencing technology. We aim to provide a trusted place that rural and remote Australians can turn to when they are experiencing tough times. Referring a patient to a psychologist in rural Australia shouldn’t be complicated. We’ve made it as easy as possible.

If you’re a GP, support coordinator, care navigator, hospital discharge planner, or work for an organisation supporting rural Australians. Here's how referring to Rural Health Connect works:

Step 1: Prepare a Mental Health Treatment Plan (GPs) or contact us to discuss your client’s needs
Step 2: Send the Mental Health Treatment Plan and a valid referral via Fax 07 4573 1100 or email [email protected]
Step 3: We contact your client and help them register and choose a psychologist based on their needs, location, availability and language and other priorities.
Step 4: Client conducts sessions online from home, bulk billed or low-cost

That’s it.

We work with GPs, PHNs, NDIS support coordinators, social workers, hospitals, and community organisations across rural Australia. If you’re not sure if your client is eligible, just reach out.

Pregnancy loss affects families in every community. Specialised support is available, no matter where you live.

The Rural Health Connect Perinatal Loss and Grief Program connects people affected by miscarriage, stillbirth, termination, or neonatal loss to psychologists with specialist training via telehealth.

Support is available Australia-wide, with sessions bulk billed for clients referred through a GP Mental Health Treatment Plan.

Our psychologists chose to work with Rural Health Connect for a reason.

They could work anywhere.
They chose the communities that are hardest to reach.

Some of them grew up in regional Australia.
Some have worked in disaster recovery.
Some want to help in specific areas - like perinatal loss, chronic illness, or trauma - which rural patients have almost never had access to locally.

They show up every day because they believe the postcode you were born in shouldn't determine the quality of mental health support you receive.

They know their patients by name. They show up for entire communities - often as the only health touchpoint for hundreds of kilometres.

Rural Australians access psychology at less than a fifth the rate of people in cities.

Not because they don’t need it. Not because they don’t want it.

Because they could not get it.

That’s the problem Rural Health Connect was built to solve.

We’re an online platform that connects people in rural and remote Australia to psychologists from the privacy of their home. No long drives. No waiting lists in the nearest regional city. No having to explain to the whole town why your car is parked outside the psychologist’s office.

We started in Central QLD, founded by a rural journalist who saw the gap firsthand. Today we have 450+ psychologists across the country covering a broad rate of areas of interest, 31,000+ sessions delivered last year, and services spanning NDIS, bulk billing, Employee Assistance Programs, perinatal loss support, and professional supervision.

We’re a social enterprise built by rural people, for rural people.

A heart attack and multiple strokes left Richard from Oakley finding day-to-day life difficult. It also brought up unresolved trauma from his childhood which he found “difficult to reconcile”.
