🌟🎉 Living Large Crew is back with another great lineup of adventures! 🎉🌟

The Living Large Crew gets out and about, experiencing the best our community offers. The Crew makes and reconnects with friends, enjoys the outdoors and develops skills through this structured community access program.

Guidance and assistance from Live Free Support Services Support Workers means people who otherwise wouldn't be able to access our many free local facilities and activities, now can.

• 🎣 12 August – Des Ryan Pier (Rockhampton) - Fishing and a sausage sizzle by the water.
• 🍗 19 August – Merv Anderson Park (Yeppoon) - Fishing, BBQ chicken skewers, and great company.
• 🎲 26 August – Millennium Comics & Kershaw Gardens (Rockhampton) -
Board games, hot dogs, and plenty of fun with friends or new friends.

Our first Kitchen Crew program was so popular that it booked out completely!
Because of the incredible response, we're now taking Expressions of Interest for a second Kitchen Crew program, running on alternate Tuesdays and starting soon.

If you've been wanting to build your cooking skills, try new recipes, gain confidence in the kitchen, and enjoy great company, now's your chance to get involved.

We are absolutely thrilled to welcome Cheryl to our team as our newest Support Worker!

Cheryl brings an incredible wealth of experience, passion, and energy that is truly inspiring.

🏅 Former World-Class Bodybuilder, achieving an amazing 7th in the World ranking
🏊 Swim Coach helping people build confidence and skills in the water
🤸 Group Fitness Coach bringing motivation and fun to every session
💦 Aqua Aerobics Instructor making exercise enjoyable for everyone

If it involves fitness, health, wellbeing, or nutrition, Cheryl is all in! Her passion for helping people achieve their goals, improve their confidence, and live healthier lives shines through in everything she does. Cheryl is an avid community volunteer, including her work with the homeless community in Rockhampton and is an experienced Disability Support Worker. Cheryl has already encouraged her new customers to start believing in themselves and to reach for their full potential.

✨ Freestyle Theatre Show Night – What a Night! 🎭
Last Thursday night was nothing short of incredible at our Freestyle Theatre Show Night!

We kicked things off in a truly special way, with participant and cast member Gen leading a calming Body Scan Meditation for the audience, such a beautiful moment to ground everyone and set the tone for the evening.

From there, the energy lifted as we got everyone up on their feet, jumping into some of our interactive theatre games. These activities are all about self-regulation and teamwork, and it was fantastic to see the audience laughing, connecting, and getting involved in such a fun way.

Then came the main event… 🌊⚓ Our show, “Scallywags and Sea Rats”, took to the stage and wow! The cast and crew did an amazing job bringing their story to life. There were plenty of laughs, big moments, and well-earned applause throughout the performance.
We are so proud of everyone who was involved. It truly was a night filled with confidence, creativity, connection, and joy. 💙

Thank you to everyone who came along and supported, what a fantastic night! 👏

Fun does this!

So, what happens when the Living Large crew decides to cook nachos on a BBQ? 🤔🌮
This week's outing to Elphinstone Street Park turned into a fun little experiment, with plenty of discussion about whether BBQ nachos would actually work and how they would turn out. Thankfully, the answer was a big success! The delicious nachos were enjoyed by everyone and sparked lots of laughs and conversation along the way.

The fun didn't stop there. Participants enjoyed shooting hoops on the basketball court, exploring the playground, chasing bubbles from the bubble machine, and taking a relaxing walk through the park together. A play-based approach is central to this structured community access program.

Activities like these provide opportunities to build social connections, develop communication skills, make decisions as a group, and increase confidence in community settings. Fun helps us to feel comfortable and safe enough to try new experiences, relate to people in order to make friends and to build positive memories that encourage us to make changes in our lives going forward.

What a taco feast What a taco feast we had at The Kitchen Crew! 🌮
Brother and sister duo Beau and Gen both decided they wanted to cook tacos recently… instead of choosing just one person’s idea, they found a way to make both versions work! Using the same recipe from the Kitchen Crew recipe book, they each added their own creative spin to the meal.
Gen brought cherry tomatoes, pre-packaged shredded lettuce, and made crunchy hard-shell tacos, while Beau chose full-sized tomatoes, a whole lettuce to prepare himself, a different taco seasoning mix, and created soft-shell tacos with a burrito-style twist. 🌯🌮
It was fantastic to see both participants taking ownership over their experience, planning ahead, shopping for their own ingredients, following the cooking process, and confidently making choices that reflected their own preferences and creativity. The kitchen was full of teamwork, problem-solving, and plenty of pride in what they created.
By the end of the session, it definitely looked like there would be enough tacos to feed the whole family! 👏
