Sometimes the biggest barrier to reaching out for support is simply life. School drop-offs and pickups. Younger kids at home. Work hours that don't line up with school hours. Days that already feel stretched. For some families, telehealth can make things easier. Instead of travelling to an appointment, we meet on screen from wherever you are. If you've been thinking about reaching out but the logistics have felt complicated, it may still be possible to find something that works. If this sounds like something your family has been navigating, it might be a good time to begin that conversation.

Some days, being the parent of neurodivergent kids means finding yourself at a way deeper level of understanding dinosaurs than you ever knew possible.

Clarity doesn't come from doing more. It comes from knowing what actually matters right now, and letting the rest wait. That's the focus of my work with parents: helping them sort through the noise and find the next step that fits for them and their child.

If you're not based near Rockhampton, it can still be possible for us to work together. Many of the families I support live outside the local area. We meet via telehealth, but the conversation and the way we work together remains the same. For many families, this makes support possible when distance would otherwise make it difficult. If distance has been a barrier for your family, you're welcome to reach out. The form is available through the link in my bio.

Sometimes the internet really does make the world feel a little smaller.

I’m hoping this reaches a few more parents of neurodivergent kids in country Australia.

I’m Emma, a psychologist based in Central Queensland. Around here you’ll find practical ideas, thoughtful conversations, everyday stories, and the occasional reminder that family life doesn’t have to make sense to anyone else to make sense in your house.

I’d love for you to follow along.

When behaviour is understood as communication and capacity, the question shifts. From “How do I stop this?” to “What's making this hard right now?” or “How can we support what's underneath?” That shift is often where things start to feel more workable. It's the lens I use when I work alongside parents, to help them understand what's driving the moment and respond in ways that fit their child and their family.

Every child carries a different mix of strengths, struggles, sensitivities, interests, and spark. That mix can feel like a lot at times. It's also where some of my most meaningful parenting moments live. The ones that make me stop, notice, and feel genuinely in awe of who my kids are becoming.

A small thing that genuinely counted. Some of the wins that matter most in a neurodivergent family would be completely invisible to anyone watching from the outside. We noticed this one.
