Our theme, Brain Injury: Many Pathways, One Community, celebrates the strength of a connected community. Whether you are a person living with brain injury, a family member, friend, carer, health or community professional, or another supporter, everyone has a role to play. Together, we share experiences, offer support, and foster a common understanding and sense of belonging.

With around 1 in 45 Australians living with a brain injury, and almost 3 in 4 of these people aged under 65, raising awareness is essential. Brain injury can occur in many everyday situations, even when it is not formally diagnosed. Causes include falls, motor vehicle, e-scooter and cycling accidents, contact sports, assault, domestic and family violence, illness, stroke, and dementia. A brain injury can happen at any stage of life.

People living with brain injury deserve the support, services, and inclusive communities that enable them to live self-determined lives. By increasing understanding and working together, we can help ensure that everyone affected by brain injury feels connected, supported, and empowered.

It’s National Stroke Week this week – 3 August to 9 August. Don’t ignore the warning signs!

High blood pressure is the leading modifiable risk factor for strokes, yet many Australians don't realise they have it because it often has no symptoms.

Strokes remain one of Australia's leading causes of death and disability, but up to 80% of strokes are preventable* through early detection and management of risk factors.

This Stroke Week, it's a timely reminder that prevention starts with something incredibly simple:

Know your blood pressure

✔ Check your blood pressure regularly
✔ Understand your cardiovascular risk factors
✔ Speak with a healthcare professional if you have concerns or receive a high reading
