Here are 5 more habits to calm your nervous system:

✅ Ask: “What do I need today?” — before automatically focusing on what everyone else needs from you.

✅ Choose one intention for the day — not a to-do list; something like steady, curious, spacious, brave.

✅ Do one small thing slowly — showering, making the bed or preparing breakfast without rushing.

✅ Give yourself a moment of creativity — write, draw, tend a plant, take a photograph or put on music you love.

✅ Orient to your surroundings — look around and consciously notice where you are rather than immediately disappearing into your thoughts.

✅ Find one thing to look forward to — however small. Anticipating something positive can shift the brain away from threat-focused attention.

Small habits. Big changes. 🩵💚💙

Most people spend years trying to feel less anxious.

But in my experience as a therapist, lasting change comes from something different.

You gradually become more confident in your ability to cope.

That’s why understanding anxiety, regulating your nervous system and learning practical skills matter so much—not because they magically remove anxiety, but because they help you trust yourself again.

When your confidence grows, anxiety loses much of its power.

If you’re ready to stop simply managing anxiety and start building genuine confidence and resilience, my Anxiety Freedom Program walks you through that process step by step.

We rarely lose ourselves in one dramatic moment.

More often, it happens quietly.

We become the one who keeps the peace. The one who anticipates everyone else’s needs. The one who says “I’m fine” without checking whether it’s true.

Over time, we can become so tuned in to everyone around us that we stop noticing ourselves.

If this resonated, perhaps ask yourself one gentle question today:

What do I need right now?

Not what should I do.
Not what does everyone else need.

Just… what do I need?

Sometimes that’s where the journey back to yourself begins.

A lot of anxious people blame themselves for getting stuck.

They think they need to be more disciplined, more motivated, more organised, more “together”.

But clinically, that is often not what is happening.

When the nervous system becomes overwhelmed, people can lose access to clear thinking, flexibility, decision-making, emotional regulation and the coping tools they usually know how to use.

That is why you might say:

“I know what I should do, but I just can’t seem to do it.”

That is not usually laziness.

It is often a nervous system state.

And the answer is not more shame or self-criticism. It is learning how to support yourself when you become overwhelmed, frozen, avoidant or stuck.

Anxiety needs support, not punishment.

My Anxiety Freedom Program provides exactly that. Check the link in my bio or comment Freedom for the link in your DM’s. 🤗

When anxiety is high, it’s not always easy to know what to do next.

You might know all the tools.
You might have read the books.
You might even understand your anxiety really well.

But in the moment anxiety takes over, your mind can still go blank.

That’s why I created The Anxiety Barometer cards.

They are a simple, practical therapy tool designed to help you:

* recognise what you’re feeling
* understand what anxiety is doing
* stop spiralling into overthinking
* choose one small, useful action
* support yourself before things escalate

There are feeling cards and action cards, so you can move from “I feel stuck” to “I know what I can try next.”

These are ideal for anxiety sufferers, therapy clients, journalling, nervous system work, and anyone who needs a simple prompt when anxiety makes everything feel too much.

Because anxiety support doesn’t need to be complicated.
Sometimes you just need the right card at the right moment.

Comment CARDS and I’ll send you the details.

Some days, looking after your mental health can feel like a full-time job.

Managing the overthinking.
Trying to stay regulated.
Holding everything together.
Getting through work, relationships, parenting, life… while also carrying anxiety, stress, overwhelm, grief, burnout, or simply exhaustion.

And I think many people quietly underestimate just how much effort that takes.

So for Mental Health Awareness Week, I just want to acknowledge the people doing that invisible work every single day.

The people trying.
The people learning.
The people getting back up again.
The people functioning while struggling.
The people slowly building healthier patterns and a calmer nervous system.

That matters.

Mental health isn’t just about crisis.
Sometimes it’s about the daily effort of staying connected to yourself in a world that pulls you away from it.

Be gentle with yourself this week.

Not everything we call a boundary… is one.

Sometimes it’s avoidance.

And I say that with a lot of understanding—because creating distance can feel like relief when something is uncomfortable.

But there’s a difference.

A boundary protects your wellbeing.
Avoidance helps you escape what feels hard.

The challenge is that avoidance often sounds like self-protection…
but it quietly keeps the same patterns in place.

Real boundaries feel clear, steady, and grounded.

They don’t come from overwhelm.
They come from knowing what you need—and being able to communicate it.

This is the deeper work.

As a therapist, I’m worried…..

We’re using words like boundary, narcissistic, and toxic more than ever.

And I understand why.

When something feels confusing or painful, those words can bring a sense of clarity… even relief.

But something I’m noticing more and more in my work is this:

When we reach for labels too quickly, we can unintentionally shut down the deeper understanding that actually creates change.

Because the real work isn’t just naming what’s happening.

It’s:
• staying with discomfort a little longer instead of exiting
• getting curious about your feelings, not just defining them
• noticing your patterns in relationships
• learning how to communicate clearly, even when it feels vulnerable
• building the capacity to sit with difficult emotions
• understanding your nervous system when it’s activated

And sometimes… it does lead to a boundary.

But one that comes from clarity, not reactivity.

Understanding yourself will always take you further than labelling someone else.

If you’re ready to go deeper than surface-level strategies, this is the kind of work I teach inside the Anxiety Freedom Program.

If your anxiety keeps coming back…
even when you’re doing all the “right” things…

it’s not because you’re failing.

It’s because most anxiety advice only works on your thoughts.

And anxiety isn’t just a thinking problem.
It’s a nervous system response.

So if you’re only trying to think differently,
you stay stuck in the same cycle:

→ overthinking
→ trying to calm yourself down
→ feeling better briefly
→ then it all comes back

This is where things start to change.

When you learn how to work with your body and your mind,
your system begins to feel safer…
and anxiety stops needing to show up in the same way.

That’s exactly what I teach inside my Anxiety Freedom Program.

A structured, step-by-step approach to help you:
– understand your anxiety properly
– regulate your nervous system
– stop the constant mental loop
– and actually feel more like yourself again
