Earwax is designed to slowly migrate out of your ears under normal, healthy situations. Factors such as dehydration, ageing, and a foreign object such as pushing earplugs, airpods, earphones, and hearing aids into your ears regularly can decrease your body's nature ability to clear out your earwax. Earwax micro-suction provides a much more gentle approach than traditional ear syringing to clear the ears out. We can then provide you with advice on ongoing managment depending on your individual needs. Our earwax clinic is provided by highly qualified Audiologists who will look into your ears with a special camera and provide you with a baseline hearing test for ongoing management. 🧏🏼‍♀‍ . Every ear is unique and your hearing solution should be too. 👂

Here, our audiologist is taking an impression of the ear using a soft, quick-setting silicone material. The impression captures the ear’s individual shape and can be used to create a comfortable, secure and custom-fitted hearing device or earmould.
A better fit can mean improved comfort, reliable performance and greater confidence in your hearing solution.

Are all hearing tests the same?
The short answer is no.

A comprehensive hearing assessment is much more than simply checking whether you can hear a beep.

At Ability Hearing & Balance, our assessments are designed to evaluate the entire hearing system. Depending on your concerns, your appointment may include:

✔️ A detailed discussion about your hearing and listening difficulties

✔️ Examination of your ears (otoscopy)

✔️ Assessment of middle ear function

✔️ Comprehensive hearing testing across the speech frequencies

✔️ Speech understanding testing

✔️ Extended high-frequency hearing testing (where clinically appropriate), particularly for patients with tinnitus or specific listening concerns

✔️ Discussion of your results and personalised recommendations

No two patients are the same, which is why we tailor our assessments to your individual symptoms and goals.

If you've been told your hearing is "normal" but you're still struggling to hear conversations, particularly in background noise, a more comprehensive assessment may help identify what's going on.

📞 Call 1300 327 776 to book a comprehensive hearing assessment with our experienced audiology team.

Do you use the words dizziness and vertigo interchangeably?

You're not alone—but they don't always mean the same thing.

Some people describe feeling light-headed or unsteady, while others experience a sensation that the room is spinning. Although these symptoms are often grouped together, they can point to different underlying causes.

Understanding exactly what you're experiencing is an important first step in finding the right assessment and treatment.

🎥 Watch our latest video as Nick explains the difference between dizziness and vertigo, why the distinction matters, and when it's time to seek professional advice.

If dizziness or vertigo is affecting your daily life, our experienced team can help assess your symptoms and recommend the most appropriate next steps.

Last month, our Principal Audiologist, Dr Heidi Modrovich, AuD, travelled to Sydney to complete specialised Lenire training ahead of the Australian launch. Dr Heidi is pictured with Andrew Coulter, Chief Commercial Officer at Neuromod Devices, and Dr Jakob Kümmel from the Neuromod clinical team.

Lenire is a clinically proven, non-invasive bimodal neuromodulation treatment for tinnitus. It combines sound delivered through headphones with gentle stimulation of the tongue and is now another treatment option we can offer suitable patients experiencing tinnitus.

At Ability Hearing & Balance, our approach to tinnitus care encompasses audiology, psychotherapy and tinnitus education, with treatment tailored to the individual and what is driving their tinnitus and distress.

Patients interested in Lenire start with a Comprehensive Tinnitus Assessment. During this appointment, we assess your tinnitus, hearing and the impact it is having on your life, determine whether you are a suitable candidate for Lenire, and discuss the treatment options most appropriate for you.

We’re very proud to bring Lenire to Tasmania and to expand the range of tinnitus treatment options available locally.

Interested in finding out whether Lenire is suitable for you?

Are workplace meetings becoming harder to follow?

Do you find yourself concentrating harder than everyone else just to keep up with the conversation?

Perhaps you can hear that people are speaking, but you miss key words when several people are talking or there's background noise in the room.

For many adults with mild to moderate hearing difficulties, work can become more tiring simply because listening requires so much extra effort.

𝗡𝘂𝗮𝗻𝗰𝗲 𝗔𝘂𝗱𝗶𝗼™ 𝗚𝗹𝗮𝘀𝘀𝗲𝘀 are designed to help support conversations in everyday situations—including meetings, workplaces and busy office environments—while looking just like a stylish pair of glasses.

If you're finding it harder to hear at work, don't ignore the signs.

Book a comprehensive hearing assessment and ask our audiologists whether Nuance Audio Glasses could be the right solution for you.
