You don’t need to be all or nothing to stay on top of your health.

One of the concepts I’ve developed over the last 15 years is around how you can manage your health and performance while still having fun and living your life.

It started in elite sport as a way to help athletes manage the off-season. The idea is simple: you can let things slide, you just can’t let everything slide at once.

More recently, I’ve been using the same concept with special operations and my corporate clients.

When I talk about this, I tend to focus on three things: food, alcohol and training.

It works really well around a corporate lunch, a busy social season, work travel or a holiday.

You decide which one you’re going to relax with, but the trick is to stay locked in on the other two. And that can change from meal to meal and day to day.

This is all about retaining rhythm and not letting all three areas compound in the wrong direction.

It’s a way to put some guardrails in place so you can have fun and manage your lifestyle commitments, while still protecting and prioritising your health.

You don’t need to nail everything all of the time. Aim for two out of three.
Let one slide, enjoy it, and move on.

I’ve shared this concept with a few groups of CEOs recently and it’s landed really well.

If you give it a go, let me know how you go.

A healthy person has a thousand goals. An unhealthy person has one

This is one of my favourite pieces of wisdom that helps reframe why prioritising yourself, and your health is not selfish.

By putting your own oxygen mask on first, you win, but so does everyone around you.

This reframe, reminds me that to sustain high performance, you must prioritise your health to not only achieve your big life goals, but be able to celebrate them and enjoy what you’ve worked so hard for.

I had the pleasure of sharing my keynote “The Wellbeing Secret: Mastering Sustainable High Performance Now and For the Long Run, to Monash Business School school.

It’s really an honour to bring this work to teams and organisations who really care and invest in the wellbeing of their organisation.
