Spent a fantastic Friday out at HQ with 150 leaders, coaches and business owners from all over the country 👉🏼 at the Swans institute performance and leadership event.

It was a unique experience with the event taking place within the state of the art Swans training facility - there’s a palpable kind of magic in such an elite setting. The line up of speakers was really something and the opportunity to chat with so many leaders from literally every industry you can think of was 💯…it’s safe to say there were plenty of learnings and inspo to take home!

We heard from sports journalist and presenter Kath Loughnan, premiership player, premiership coach of the swans and now director of performance John Longmire, Swans COO Drew Arthurson, Ex Wallbies captain Michael Hooper and ex player, captain and now head of wellbeing and player development Brett Kirk.

You may never have considered it but there are a stack of parallels between elite sport organizations, culture and athlete performance and small business. When exploring the leadership and performance frameworks at the swans, there were many ‘yep, our studio team nail that’ along with ‘ohhhh love that approach, we could adapt and adopt a,b and c’…moments 💭

A very worthy investment. Investing in progressive leadership is an investment in our team and therefore community. Stoked to fly the flag with my teeny side kick in tow.

Side note…absolutely every effort was made to sway Bonnie into a red and white Guernsey…I’m sure a sight that would please many of the studio crew 😆❤️🤍

Having been visited by the mastitis monster a few times, the warning signs are very much front of mind for me at present…this awful condition unfortunately more common than many new mums realise 😖

Research suggests around 15–20% of breastfeeding women will experience mastitis in the first 6 months postpartum, with emerging evidence highlighting how common, misunderstood and mismanaged it can be 🤕

Mastitis is inflammation of the breast tissue, often linked with disrupted milk flow, engorgement, ni**le damage and feeding challenges 🤱🏽

🚩 Common signs include:
• A tender, hot or swollen area of the breast
• Redness
• Flu-like symptoms: aches, chills, fatigue or fever
• Pain during feeding
• A firm or lumpy area in the breast

Note not all cases present with ALL of the above 🖐🏼

Early support matters 🏃🏽‍♀️

Women’s health physio can help assess feeding ergonomics, breast inflammation, muscle tension and provide management strategies to reduce symptoms and support comfortable feeding and recovery. Physio can also help point you in the right direction of specialist lactation support if needed 🙏🏽

We recommend seeking support as soon as possible. This is not a condition to simple grit your teeth and push through 🙅🏽‍♀️

I remember seeing pics of myself after my second babe and thinking - ‘Wowzers girl looks slumpy’ with my back and shoulders resembling Quasimodo’s 🙃

This time round I don’t want to create such an uphill battle for myself so I’m combating the hard to avoid shoulder slump (after feeding and carrying babes 8+ hours a day) with plenty of shoulder mobility, stretching and ergonomic assists - hello decent feeding chair and pillows for support.

This ain’t just an aesthetic endeavor…maintaining optimal posture will support my abdominal and pelvic floor healing post partum and reduce the incidence of neck, back pain and headaches 🙏🏽

A little, often, goes a long way.

Prevention > reaction 🤝
