People with Disabilities are being made to feel invisible by a society that focuses more on the economic costs associated with providing care and support but not the human cost of feeling shut out by society because people fail to see the humanity behind our respective Disabilities.

If you are struggling, you are never alone with your struggles - in times like these reach out to one another and know that you are never alone

October is ADHD Awareness Month! 🧡

The 2026 theme is ‘A Community of Support’. It focuses on coming together to share accurate information, lived experiences, and practical strategies.

First Nations people with disability, including those living with ADHD, face unique challenges rooted in systemic injustice, cultural disconnection, and lack of access to culturally safe services.

Whether you’re an ADHDer, parent, teacher, health professional, or employer, we all have a role to play in building understanding and inclusion.

Let’s listen. Let’s learn. Let’s stand together.

Image description (alt text): An orange and white social media tile from the First Peoples Disability Network marking ADHD Awareness Month. The top orange section features subtle Indigenous artwork patterns, colorful scattered puzzle pieces in the top right corner, and the FPDN logo in a white box at the top center. A central white banner displays red text reading “October 2026” flanked by two thin lines. Below it sits the “ADHD Awareness Month” logo, featuring large black text “ADHD” with an orange awareness ribbon on the right, above an orange arrow graphic containing the white words “AWARENESS MONTH”. The bottom section transitions back to orange artwork background with additional colorful puzzle pieces in the lower left corner.

Our amazing Policy Manager is a finalist in Australian Disability Network’s Disability Confidence Awards, for mentee of the year. The team at PDA are not surprised by this as we see the great work Sarah does every day.

In Sarah's words
"Through the journey of being a mentee, I have gained valuable insights into advocacy, the dedication and work involved in running a not-for-profit organisation, and strategies for building and advancing my career. The experience has also deepened my understanding of how to effectively request workplace disability accommodations. As a result, I have grown in confidence and feel better equipped to perform at my best and contribute meaningfully in the workplace."

Well done Sarah and good luck on the night
