WELCOME TO THE RESTART TEAM TESS 😃

The team and I are overjoyed to welcome Tess to our growing community!

Tess is a fantastic EP with a wealth of great knowledge and experience under her belt. These opportunities have given her the chance to develop her areas of interest, which include respiratory, diabetes, dementia and mental health management.

Tess is a big fan of incidental exercise, and tries to make activity part of her daily life by walking her daughter and cattle dog to day care, or cycling to work. Tess is a strong advocate of the belief that our health is our greatest asset!

Tess currently enjoys BBQ'ing on the weekend to try out new cooking skills to take away camping to share with family and friends.

To make a booking with Tess at either our Carseldine or Chermside clinic, call 1300 899 757.

👉Why you might see a EP

I've learnt a lot through making my first video for you. I hope it's not too horrible and you're able to get my message easily.

Thank you, Tess

R U OK?

🖤Almost half of Australians will be affected by Mental Health Condition over the course of their life, and 65% of them do not seek help because of stigma.

🖤 Su***de is the number 1 cause of death for people aged between 15 and 44 in Australia.

🖤 It is known that Aboriginal & Torres Strait Islanders, and people in the LGBTQI+ community are more likely to die by su***de.

So lets start the conversation simply asking; "Are you okay?"

Ask that 2nd and 3rd follow up Question to get past the automated response of "yea, i'm alright" we easily fall into. The follow up Q's creates a more meaningful connection and we feel more comfortable sharing how we honestly feel.

It’s not always easy to keep the conversation going when someone says they’re not OK, but i could change a life. We’ve released an interactive conversation roleplay video to help you learn what to say after R U OK?

Exercise and sleep 💤
Exercise timing and specificity can have assistive control on hormones within the body to improve our nights rest.

🏃‍♀️Vigorous exercise releases hormone Adrenaline giving us that temporay fight & flight response. Exercise in the morning can help us be more alert for the day.

🤸‍♀️Intermittent Exercise can improve the use of insulin, more by decreasing insulin resistance for improved energy management within the body. It also has reported effects on ghrelin & leptin the two hormones which control our appetite.

🧞‍♀️ Mobility and mindfulness exercise such as yoga can help reduce our stress. It does this by lowering cortisol which might have accumulated over the day preparing us ready for rest.

If we're able to elevate our heart rate in the morning, we'll feel more wakeful & alert during the day. Productivity increases and we expend more. Therefore we'll feel more tired at the end of the day stimulating the natural release of melatonin signalling us to go to sleep. If you've had a rushed day, doing yoga can help lower cortisol levels and stress before bed.

Here's a rare picture of my daughter sleeping.
Sleep has been a hard area for us since the arrival our our daughter who believes she's allergic to it. Ive never paid so much attention to Sleep 'hygiene' more in my life 😅
Goodnight 💛

Did you know there are risk factors for a heart attack & diabetes which you can change, and some you cannot?

Some non modifiable risk factors are your age & family history.

Whereas some risk factors you can change are your blood pressure, blood glucose & weight.

These risk factors are influenced by our lifestyle.

This week I conducted cardiovascular & metabolic testing for TT members.

It was a great opportunity to provide TT members with education around cardiovascular & metabolic disease and we created a support plan how to reduce their individual factors.

An accredited Exercise Physiologist can perform a screening and provide lifestyle modifications to reduce your risk for developing cardiovascular & metabolic disease.

Today is and there is accumulating evidence to suggest that aerobic exercise may serve as an effective treatment option for individuals with PTSD (alongside other treatment options such as medication, talking-based therapies, etc.).

The purpose of this review was to summarise the existing literature exploring aerobic exercise and PTSD and briefly discuss potential mechanisms of PTSD symptom reduction.
