Fairway took flight to Moorabbin Airport ✈️

One of our residents, John, has a real passion for aviation so a group of us headed out on a bus trip to the Flight Deck Café, where we spent time watching planes take off and land right from the café. It was the perfect spot to sit back, relax, and take in all the action of the airport while enjoying great company and a cuppa together.

Outings like this are all about supporting residents to stay connected to the things they love and creating moments that feel personal, joyful and full of purpose.

A big thank you to Roy our maintenance manager and the whole team who made this special trip possible for John and the residents, we had a wonderful day 💙

Pure joy across generations 💛

This week we welcomed our friends from Story House Kindergarten, and what unfolded was something really special. At just 3 years old, these little visitors spent time with residents aged up to 103 — a 100-year age gap, yet the connection was instant.

They shared cupcakes, handed out beautiful drawings of their favourite things and colours, and proudly performed a dance they’d been practising. But beyond the sweet moments, something deeper was happening.

You could see residents light up, becoming more playful and more present. Conversations flowed more easily, laughter came quicker, and there was a sense of purpose in sharing stories, attention, and care with the children. For the kinder kids, it builds empathy, confidence, and a natural understanding of ageing and connection.

Intergenerational experiences like these are so powerful. They can reduce feelings of loneliness, support emotional wellbeing, stimulate memory and communication, and bring a renewed sense of identity and joy to our residents.

We’re so grateful to be continuing these visits and nurturing something that brings so much meaning to both generations 🌈

🔨 Men’s Shed Update: Our First Build is Complete! 🎁

Remember that planning session we had a few weeks ago? Well, the sawdust has settled and we are thrilled to show off the very first project from Fairway’s Mobile Men’s Shed: handcrafted bird boxes!

📋 From Planning to Production
It’s been a busy few days! We moved from "ideas" to "implementation" quickly. Our residents spent time:

✅Measuring & Planning: Discussing the best designs to keep our local birds safe and dry.
✅Building: Putting those lifelong skills to use with hammers, nails, and plenty of teamwork.
✅Finishing touches: Ensuring every edge was just right.

✨ The Result
The bird boxes look absolutely fantastic! They are sturdy, classic, and made with a lot of heart. We can’t wait to get outside and hang them up in our courtyards. We’re looking forward to seeing the local birds move in and providing a bit of "nature-watching" for everyone to enjoy.

🙌 Want to get involved?
The Men’s Shed is all about community. Whether you have a trade background, a knack for DIY, or just want to help sand some timber and have a chat, we’d love to have you.

How you can help:
💜Volunteer: Join us for a session.
💜Donate: We are always looking for offcuts of wood, sandpaper, or small tools.
💜Share: Tell a friend who might want to lead a workshop!

We made the most of these last golden days of summer with a beautiful walk in the park 🌿☀️

There’s something truly special about getting out into nature, feeling the sunshine, breathing in the fresh air, and taking in the sights and sounds around us. For our residents, these gentle walks aren’t just enjoyable, they’re incredibly beneficial too. Walking outdoors can help improve mood, boost mobility and balance, support heart health, and even reduce feelings of stress and anxiety.

Most importantly, it’s a chance to slow down, connect with one another, and appreciate the simple joys, like a warm breeze, birdsong, and the beauty of the changing seasons 🍃

We also shared some Easter cheer, with the Easter bunny hopping by to spread a little joy and chocolates! 🐰💛

Wishing everyone a very happy and safe Easter spent with loved ones 🐣🌸
