Yesterday was World Refugee Day. But this thought hasn’t left me.

Play is how children make sense of the unbearable. It belongs in every humanitarian response.

Not as an afterthought. Not as enrichment. As a fundamental part of how we support children through conflict, displacement, and loss.

Play can change the world 🌏

You will find our friendly Cancer Screening and Care@home teams at the Tasmanian Government Exhibit on South Street (Site number 74). There’s even a dedicated kid’s zone.

💊Care@home: If you have a chronic disease or a respiratory illness you may be eligible for virtual care and support from the Care@home service to help you manage your condition at home and stay out of hospital. Visit the team to find out more about the service and how it works.

🔍Cancer Screening: Come and chat to the Cancer Prevention team about breast, bowel and cervical screening. If you’re due for a mammogram, you can book it there.

🚑Ambulance Tasmania is also just down the street at stall 82. Have a chat with our paramedics and volunteers, explore inside the ambulance, and try CPR on mannequins!

I had the pleasure of presenting on Saturday at the Australian Conference for Neurodevelopmental Disorders. It was a wonderful opportunity to meet likeminded people who share the hearts and hopes for prioritising play as part of a healthy lifestyle. I spoke on the healing and therapeutic powers of play and how we connect the dots to support our clients.

Posting this today feels powerful and brave as I want a message to go out into the community that speaks of warmth embrace and support for all the neurodiverse people I know, all the parents and carers of neurodiverse people I work with and those of you reading who I don't know yet. Bless you all and hold heads and hearts high as we rally together to push back against judgement, minimisation, deficit-views and prejudice!!
