Hi Folks - arrangements for the WBSLSC WIN Current Cruiser 2027 are full steam ahead - attached is v.1 of the poster going up at Sandy Point this weekend - we still have room for sponsors and are looking for sponsors for individual event categories (please contact me if you are able to assist). The website will be operational soon and can take early bird registrations. We will be swimming on an outgoing tide and the start will be late morning. More details to follow closer to the event.

Planting at the Surf Club.
We are very happy to report we had a great turn up of volunteers keen to help plant out the entry area of the Surf Club and have attached a couple of photos. Many of the plants that we believe might be attractive to rabbits etc have been guarded. The plants have in part been provided by the Planet Ark / SPCG 'Plant me Instead' project and others have been excess plants, kindly donated by South Gippsland Conservation Society (grown for the Inverloch Surf Club planting) by Wonthaggi Seed Bank Nursery.

We will keenly watch how they grow and hope that the lovely rain over the last days will give them a great start. If there are extended periods over summer e.g. over a week without rain they might benefit from water from a hose. We have spread a good layer of mulch which was kindly provided by South Gippsland Shire and the small amount we have left can be used at other sites around the clubhouse over your working bee weekend.

We notice there are gazanias still hiding among grasses on the beach side of the roundabout. A job for another time!

Our clubhouse copes with everything Sandy Point weather throws at it, so it’s no surprise it needs regular maintenance and repairs.

If you’ve been down to SP lately, you might have noticed the front roof dome looks a lot better. The damaged panels have been replaced, and it’s back in one piece.

Huge thanks to Andrew Edbrooke for coordinating the repair on the club's behalf, and to Corner Inlet Plumbing for carrying out the work. 🙌

Keeping the club in shape is a team effort. Our working bee is on Sunday 1 November from 0900. Come down for an hour or the whole morning; every bit helps. 🧹

⏳ 9 WEEKS TO GO TILL NIPPERS! ⏳

63 sleeps and counting! 🌊 Nippers is back on Sunday 27 December, and summer at Waratah Beach is getting closer every day. ☀️

Time to dig out the goggles, hunt down that missing pink cap, and stock up on sunscreen. 🧴😎

🧹 8 DAYS TO GO: WORKING BEE & GEAR CHECK! 🛟

The countdown is on! One week from tomorrow, we’re giving the club its annual spring clean, and we need YOU! 💪

The spiders have had the run of the place all winter, and they’ve grown far too comfortable. 🕷️ It’s time to reclaim the sheds, check our gear, and get everything ready for patrols and Nippers.

What’s on the to-do list:

🧹 Sweeping out the sheds
🛟 Checking over the gear and equipment
⚓ Making the club shipshape for summer

Bring: gloves, closed-toe shoes, a hat, a water bottle and plenty of enthusiasm. We’ll bring the snacks! 🍪

Even an hour makes a difference. Many hands make light work! 🙌

The sheds have been in hibernation all winter, and frankly, the spiders have started charging rent. 🕷️ It’s time to evict them and get Waratah Beach SLSC ready for summer!

Job vacancies include:

🧹 Chief Sweeping Officer: no experience needed. If you’ve ever pushed a broom (or watched someone else push a broom), you’re qualified.
🛟 Pre Gear Inspector: poke things, check things, nod knowingly. Clipboard optional.
🕸️ Cobweb Removal Specialist: must be brave. Screaming is allowed but not encouraged.
🍪 Morale & Snack Supervisor: we know who you are. We need you too.

Bring: gloves, closed-toe shoes, a hat, a water bottle, and your best “I’m only here for the snacks” face. 😎

Many hands make light work. Come for an hour or stay all morning, and help us make the club shipshape before the summer crowds (and the Nippers) arrive! 🌊☀️
