The NDIS is starting to categorise participants based on their impairment/s which have met the access criteria.
If the new legislation passes, these impairment categories will become even more important.
Currently, the legislation allows planners to consider how multiple impairments interact- even if not all the impairments have met the NDIS access criteria.
But if the new law passes, the NDIA will not be able to consider the impact of ineligible impairments or other contextual factors. All supports must have a direct link to eligible impairments. Report writers will need to consider this when making recommendations, and participants may need to explore demonstrating that their other impairments meet the access criteria.
In our latest article, we cover in depth what’s changing with impairment notices and how people can prepare. We’ve also shared an FOI document that shows how the NDIA maps different impairments to diagnoses- so you and the people you support don’t have to wait for the NDIA to get around to sending those letters!
