Acupuncture.
So why are Acupuncturists omitted from Medicare, and what does this mean for you-the patient?

Leaving Acupuncturists off the Medicare scheme means most of our patients don’t receive the benefits-oftentimes they have to pay more for a more superior service than the 1-4 day “dry needling”
Courses on offer 😞

GPs, physios, chiros and osteopaths can bill acupuncture under Medicare in Australia — the dedicated acupuncture profession cannot. Why it matters.

Beach Acupuncture and Wellness update

The clinic as you know it now will be transforming into a new space, inviting in new tenants to the building who will be offering beauty and aesthetic services.

Well, some of the practitioners here will stay on, and some won’t.

We will have further information about who will be working what hours and in which location in the coming weeks.

But for now just know that Friday, 28 August will be our last day in the clinic.

Stay tuned on this, our clinic page, and also our individual practitioner pages as they update you on their movements moving forward into September and beyond.

Much love

How’s all the hype on perimenopause at the moment?

Well, with good reason I think!

It is a confusing, frustrating, complex, and sometimes stressful time in a woman’s life.

It doesn’t always have to be that way, but gathering a little bit more data about where you’re sitting in your life will make your decision-making much easier!

I am now offering online consultations with patients, discussing their overall health and well-being during the ups and downs of perimenopause.

there is a lot of information out there, and it can be really hard to sift through.

I have significant postgraduate studies in psychology and sexual and reproductive health, so I can support you through this journey without the big hard sell!

Some women end up just having the initial console, and they might come back six months later for a review.

Other women, I am referring off to a GP who has a special interest in this area, for some support and guidance menopausal hormonal therapy. This isn’t always indicated for every patient, but someone could really benefit from it.

Again, it’s about getting the information so that you can make informed decisions.

If you know someone that could really use some guidance, be brave and share this post with them!

Chinese herbal formulas work really well to support what we’re doing in clinic with acupuncture.

Why?

Because they serve a similar purpose to pharmaceuticals, in the fact that each component of the formula, or each herb, serves a specific purpose.

There are herbs in there to bring the formula together or treat a specific region of the body (just like a migraine medication treats the head-not the foot!).

There are also herbs that are more supportive, and treat the symptoms

And of course there’s the big hitters, which are our chief herbs and the Primary layer within the formulation. These usually are herbs that will directly target the main root cause, or the condition being treated.

As an acupuncturist, I don’t just pick random herbs and put them together like some other modalities may do.

These formulations are thousands of years old, and have been through the test of time

The formulations that you may be given are to Work alongside the acupuncture, and targeting the Chinese medicine pattern of diagnosis.

I hope that gives a little bit more insight into the formulations and how they work!

So his little video discussing the uses of the white fungi mushroom.

Yes, you read that correctly!

But it’s not as gross as you think!

It’s also known as the “snow mushroom”, and it’s an edible mushroom that’s historically being popular in herbal and Asian medicine and cuisine.

Tremella actually has a very mild taste, and pairs well with other powders you might be adding into your daily routine.

There was a study done in 2023 on the potential benefits of tremella on the skin. Of course, as in many studies, further research is needed to understand the role of tremella fully and its use in dermatology.

But…

the studies have demonstrated its role in skin anti-ageing, photo protection, wound healing, and barrier protection!

The polysaccharides in the snow mushroom have been demonstrated to have positive effects on a range of biological functions including those involved with antioxidant tumour, antidiabetic, immuno modulatory, and neuro protective pathways (Mineroff and Jagdeo, 2023).

We have one sachet left in clinic (100gm) and if you’re coming in for any facial cosmetic acupuncture treatments, I highly recommend grabbing a packet of this at your next appointment!

•Sleep•

For some it’s easy

For others it’s a nightmare (excuse the pun)

Why does it vary so much?

And why does it fluctuate during times of stress?

The liver is one organ a Chinese medicine practitioner will assess if you’re waking up during the night.

The heart is another organ asking for attention if you’re having vivid dreams, and dreaming a lot.

The large intestine might need you to listen if you’re waking up early and needing the bathroom.

Sounds bizarre? Not to Dr. Bec-our Acupuncturist!

She’s about to wrap up semester 1 of uni so has a little extra time over the next few weeks.

Big changes…

In clinic our an acupuncturist, Dr. Rebecca Brook sees a lot of patients coming in with what was known as PCOS.

But the term has never quite sat right!

So thank goodness there’s a shift, and have a read to see why.

How is everyone coping with the year of the Fire Horse?

In contrast to the inward nature of the Snake (last Chinese year), the Fire Horse year tends to feel faster, louder, and more energised. It often supports taking initiative, starting new projects, making courageous decisions, and speaking more honestly about desires and needs.

Career changes, creative pursuits, entrepreneurial ideas, travel, and new relationships are all highlighted under this influence.

Watch out for the signs, and embrace the year ahead…
