Headaches when reading or using a computer? Focusing on near objects works the muscles inside the eye, and like any muscle, overuse leads to fatigue and strain. Here are some ways to help reduce symptoms:

1. 20-20-20 rule; for every 20 minutes of near work (whether it's reading, crafts, phone, computer, etc), spend 20 seconds focusing on something 20 feet (or 6 metres) away. This relaxes the muscles and gives your eyes a chance to rest.

2. Use good lighting. Although reading in the dark won't "ruin your eyes" like you may have heard growing up, good lighting is good for your eyes! Tasks are easier to see when they are adequately lit, reducing the need to strain your eyes to see. Additionally, bright lighting helps to reduce the onset of short-sightedness.

3. SyncIII anti-fatigue lenses. These lenses give clear vision in the distance and have a specialised zone at the bottom that relaxes the muscles, reducing strain during long sessions of up-close work. The relaxing zone is invisible to the outside viewer, so you don't have to worry about any line!
