🚨 Important Notice for Hearing Aid & Cochlear Implant Users🚨

If you wear Bluetooth-enabled hearing aids or cochlear implants this is something you'll want to know.

On Monday, 27 July 2026 the Australian Government will conduct a nationwide test of the new AusAlert emergency warning system

🕑 Time:2:00 pm AEST (please check your local time if you're in a different Australian time zone).

During the test, compatible mobile phones will play a 10-second emergency alert siren If your hearing devices are connected to your phone via Bluetooth, the alert may stream directly into your hearing aids or cochlear implant processor, which could be unexpectedly loud or startling.

To avoid being caught by surprise, you may wish to:
🔹 Turn off Bluetooth on your phone around 10 minutes before the test so the alert plays through your phone's speaker instead.
🔹 If preferred, briefly remove your hearing aid(s) or cochlear implant processor just before the scheduled test time.

We're sharing this information so our hearing health community has plenty of notice and can prepare if needed.

Please consider sharing this post with anyone you know who uses Bluetooth-connected hearing devices. 💙

It is with sadness, but a heart full of blessings from knowing this incredible person, that I post about the passing of Jack Katz.

Jack had been a huge influence on my working life years before I was able to meet him. I feel so honoured that I had time to virtually sit at the feet and learn from his wisdom. Jack always had incredible insight and dropped nuggets of gold into every conversation. He was one of the most intelligent and inspiring people I have ever known, but always had time to listen and answer questions.

My children would always know when I had come off a call that Jack had been on as they could see the glow about me and would say “Were you talking to the ‘father of audiology’ mom?’

Jack certainly was the father of the audiology I practice. My daily work is significantly influenced by his Buffalo model for testing and intervention.

The world has lost a great man and audiology has lost a one of a kind mentor.

Alav ha-shalom Jack.

We have some exciting news.

On 1 April 2025 at 7pm AWST CAPable Hearing Solutions are hosting on online screening of the documentary “Between Two Ear”

In celebration of International APD awareness day on 1/4/2025 (it’s no joke!) we will journey with Matt Hay (Author of Soundtrack of Silence) on his path to hearing again.

‘Between two Ears’ is a short documentary following an inspirational story uncovering the impact of auditory processing disorder, the challenges associated with it and overcoming them.

This is a great opportunity to watch this documentary to gain a further understanding of auditory processing disorder, and the impact it has not only on the patient but also those around them. Please join us in recognizing the profound impact of rewiring the brain through Matt Hay’s transformative journey through the guidance of Dr. Angela Alexander.

We will be streaming this, so you can watch in the comfort of your own home for just $5 USD ($8 AUD) per ticket, only one ticket needed per device. This will be streamed at 7pm on Tuesday 1st April for a one-time viewing. If you would like to participate, please follow the link below to purchase a ticket.

Do you or a loved one struggle in background noise in restaurants? There is research and app development that could help this in the future. Please fill in the survey to help gain as much data as possible.

Have you ever struggled to hear your dinner companions in an eatery because of background noise? 🤔

⭐ Exciting News! Abstract Accepted! ⭐
I’ll be presenting the findings from this research study at the National Audiology Australia Conference in April 2025, and we need your help!

PLUS We’re working WITH the hospitality industry to make dining more hearing-friendly and we need YOUR help!

They reached out to us because they want to do better. We’re going to educate them on how to be more inclusive for the one in six Australians with hearing loss.

This Australia wide survey helps us understand how noise impacts your dining experience. Your input will directly help us shape our education packages to assist restaurants in becoming more inclusive and enjoyable for everyone. 🕊️

🌟 Your input could create quieter, more inclusive dining experiences for everyone! If people don't participate, the hospitality industry will assume no issue needs addressing 🤷‍♀️

📊 Take the survey today and help us create a change, or tag someone who loves dining out but finds it too lively.

Together, we can make a change!

**Survey extended to end of January to ensure more responses**
