As part of National Reconciliation Week, we were honoured to welcome Bunurong artist, cultural educator and community leader Kobi Sainty to Tweddle.
Kobi shared his cultural knowledge and personal experiences while standing before his striking artworks and murals at our Bunurong and Wurundjeri Early Parenting Centres.
Drawing on stories of growing up with his grandparents, Kobi reflected on the profound influence of their strength, resilience and lifelong advocacy for the rights of First Nations peoples.
Through powerful storytelling, he offered valuable insights into Bunurong culture, the importance of allyship, and the role we all play in fostering respect, curiosity and understanding of First Nations peoples, cultures and Country.
His message reinforced that reconciliation is an ongoing commitment, one that begins with listening, learning and creating safe, inclusive environments where children can grow with cultural pride, respect and connection.
Kobi’s storytelling inspires curiosity, wonder and respect.
It reminds us of the strength, resilience and survival of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples despite the ongoing impacts of colonisation, the Stolen Generations, displacement, disease and systemic injustice.
As Kobi shared, babies and young children are like sponges, they learn from the world around them.
When their environment is nurturing, kind, free from racism, and reflects cultural pride, they are more likely to grow into adults who value and respect Aboriginal languages, cultures and histories.
🙏🏼 Thank you, Kobi, for sharing your knowledge and inspiring us to continue our reconciliation journey, both as an organisation and as individuals.
