🎡🎒 Episode 5: Stuck & Spin!
It’s Royal Adelaide Show time! Which means one very important question…
What rides would Stuck and Spin be going on?!
This week we’re unpacking the backpacks of our vestibular Sensaroos. While Spin might be ready to jump straight on the biggest, fastest ride, Stuck might prefer something a little more predictable and grounded.

So… what ride are YOU going on at the Royal Adelaide Show?
See you next week for another Sensaroo backpack! 🦘🎒

Episode 4: Shades & Flick
Taking the Sensaroos backpacks on the road this week! 👀
Between schools, we’re unpacking Shades & Flick - our visual Sensaroos.
These two might both be all about what they see, but their backpacks look pretty different 👓✨
From sunglasses, visual breaks and reducing visual clutter for Shades, to visual fidgets, movement and things to keep Flick’s eyes busy, there are lots of different ways we can support visual sensory needs.

🎧🎶 Episode 3: Hush & Cruz

🎒 Episode 2 is here!
Today we’re unpacking Krash’s and Krush’s backpacks.

One question we often get is, “How do you fit a trampoline in a backpack?” 😄

The answer... you don’t! Many kiddos are literal thinkers, so we use things like jumping cards and jumping dice to represent bigger movement activities that won’t fit inside a backpack.

Which backpack would you or your client be reaching for? 👀🎒

See you next week for another pair of Sensaroos backpack!

Welcome to the Sensaroos Backpack Series! 🎒

Each Sensaroo has their own backpack filled with strategies that help them feel regulated, supported and ready for their day.

Over the next few weeks, we’ll be unpacking each backpack and sharing the sensory strategies behind each of the Sensaroos!

‘Why don’t you want a hug?’
I get asked this a lot.
It’s not because I don’t like you. It’s not because I’m being rude.
The truth is, my body experiences touch differently. Sometimes even a hug from someone I love can feel overwhelming.
So when I say, “No thanks,” I’m not rejecting you, I’m listening to what my body needs.

As OTs, we often support kiddos who are like Hush, over-responsive to tactile input. Their nervous system processes touch more intensely, meaning everyday experiences like hugs, crowded spaces, or unexpected taps on the shoulder can feel uncomfortable or overwhelming.
Teaching kiddos that it’s okay to say no to a hug isn’t about encouraging avoidance, it’s about respecting body autonomy, sensory differences, and consent.

Instead of assuming a hug is the right way to connect, try asking:
‘Would you like a hug, a high five, or a wave?’
Giving them a choice helps them feel safe, respected, and in control of their own bodies.
