The behaviours that we see don't always explain the whole picture πŸ’™β„οΈ

Sometimes the behaviours that we see are an indication that something may be going on 'under the surface'. Understanding what is going on 'under the surface' can help us to
🩡 identify the real problem
🩡 improve emotion regulation
🩡 increase communication
🩡 develop self-awareness

✨ It might feel uncomfortable or unnatural
✨ You and your psychologist will spend time getting to know each other and setting goals for your work together
✨ You don't have to have the "right words"
✨ Therapy is a collaborative process
✨ Progress in therapy isn't always linear
✨ It's okay to ask your psychologist questions

We thought we might start sharing some books that our psychologists have been enjoying. The Rainbow Brain by felt like a great place to start 🌈🌱

The Rainbow Brain is an illustrated children's book that helps explain how the AuDHD brain works through celebrating unique differences and strengths. AuDHD is a term commonly used to refer to neurodivergent people with diagnoses of both ADHD and Autism.

During mindful activities it is helpful to remember that connection and playfulness are more important than perfection πŸ’–πŸƒ

Pediatric Obsessive Compulsive Disorder (OCD) πŸ¦ πŸ’™

Pediatric OCD centers around the OCD cycle which maintains the young person's distress and anxiety
✨ Obsession: upsetting thoughts, worries, ideas, or pictures that get stuck in your mind
✨ Anxiety: an uncomfortable feeling similar to nervous, scared, or not quite right
✨ Compulsion: A habit, ritual, or routine that you feel like you have to do. This can include avoiding places, objects, and thoughts

To treat pediatric OCD, a qualified psychologist works with you and your child to create a graded plan to face their OCD fears 🦠✨

This can help break the OCD cycle by reducing
πŸ’™ reliance on compulsions
πŸ’™ distress related to obsessive thoughts

FSA Psychology will be running an OCD group therapy intervention called OCD Busters; the group will be starting on the 23rd of July. OCD Busters is a 12-week group OCD intervention program designed for young people aged 9 - 12 and their families πŸ’™βœ¨
