🩸 Leukaemia & Bone Marrow Awareness Month | August

This month, we stand with everyone affected by leukaemia and other blood cancers while raising awareness about the life-saving impact of stem cell and bone marrow donation.

For many people diagnosed with blood cancers, a stem cell or bone marrow transplant offers hope for recovery—but finding a suitable donor isn’t always easy.

By learning about donation, registering as a potential donor if you’re eligible, and supporting those affected, you can help give someone a second chance at life.

Together, we can raise awareness, inspire action, and support ongoing research into blood cancers.

😴 Sleep Health Week | 10 August

Sleep isn’t a luxury—it’s one of the foundations of good health, alongside a balanced diet and regular exercise.

Getting enough quality sleep helps your body recover, strengthens your immune system, supports mental wellbeing, and improves focus and energy. Poor sleep, on the other hand, can increase stress and affect your overall health.

This Sleep Health Week, start with one simple habit:
🌙 Stick to a consistent bedtime.
📱 Reduce screen time before bed.
🛏️ Create a relaxing evening routine.

Small changes can lead to better sleep—and better health.

If you’re experiencing ongoing sleep problems, don’t ignore them. Speak with your GP for advice and support.

🧠 National Stroke Week | 3–9 August 2026

A stroke is a medical emergency. Recognising the signs early and acting fast can save a life and reduce the risk of long-term disability.

Remember F.A.S.T.:
🟠 Face – Has one side of the face drooped?
🟠 Arms – Can they raise both arms?
🟠 Speech – Is their speech slurred or difficult to understand?
🟠 Time – Call 000 immediately.

Don’t wait to see if symptoms improve. Every minute counts when it comes to stroke.

Know the signs. Act F.A.S.T. Save a life.

🫁 World Lung Cancer Day | 1 August

Every breath matters.

Lung cancer is one of the leading causes of cancer-related deaths, but early detection can improve outcomes. A persistent cough, shortness of breath, chest pain, or unexplained fatigue shouldn’t be ignored—even if you’ve never smoked.

Listen to your body. Notice the signs. Speak with your GP if something doesn’t feel right.

Early action can make all the difference.

❤️ Donate Life Week 2026 ❤️

One donation has the power to help multiple people.

Donated blood is separated into red blood cells, plasma, and platelets, allowing it to support patients with a wide range of medical needs—from surgery and childbirth to cancer treatment and blood disorders.

Every donation is a simple act of kindness that can make a life-changing difference.

This Donate Life Week, consider becoming a blood donor and encourage others to do the same. Together, we can help ensure lifesaving blood is available for those who need it most.

💙 Stress Awareness Day 💙

Stress affects more than just your mind—it impacts your entire body.

😣 Muscle tension: When you’re stressed, your muscles tighten to protect you. Over time, chronic tension can lead to headaches, neck and shoulder pain, and jaw clenching.

😴 Poor sleep: Ongoing stress raises cortisol levels, making it harder to relax and fall asleep. Lack of quality sleep can leave you feeling exhausted, affect your concentration, and impact your overall wellbeing.

While occasional stress is a normal part of life, persistent stress shouldn’t be ignored. Taking time to manage stress and seeking support when needed can improve both your mental and physical health.

If stress is affecting your daily life, speak with your GP. Early support can make a real difference.

🫁 Let’s Separate the Myths from the Facts About Lung Cancer.

Misinformation can delay diagnosis and treatment. Knowing the facts could help save lives.

❌ Myth: Nothing can be done after a lung cancer diagnosis.
✅ Fact: Advances in treatment, including targeted therapies and immunotherapy, are improving outcomes and helping many people live longer with better quality of life.

❌ Myth: Only smokers get lung cancer.
✅ Fact: Around 1 in 4 people diagnosed with lung cancer have never smoked. Risk factors such as secondhand smoke, air pollution, genetics, and environmental exposures can also play a role.

Persistent symptoms like a long-lasting cough, coughing up blood, chest pain, unexplained weight loss, or shortness of breath should never be ignored. Early detection can make a significant difference.

💜 Birth Trauma Awareness Week | 13 July 2026 💜

Not all scars are visible.

For many parents, the birth of a baby is also the beginning of emotional pain that can linger long after the delivery. Birth trauma is real, and so are the feelings that come with it.

Around 1 in 3 mothers describe their birth experience as traumatic, and some go on to develop perinatal PTSD following a distressing experience before, during, or shortly after childbirth.

If your birth experience still affects you, please know that your feelings are valid. You don’t have to carry them alone, and support is available.

This Birth Trauma Awareness Week, let’s raise awareness, encourage understanding, and remind every parent that healing is possible.

💙 National Diabetes Week 💙

Diabetes often develops quietly, with symptoms that are easy to overlook. Increased thirst, frequent urination, fatigue, blurred vision, and slow-healing cuts shouldn’t be ignored—they could be early warning signs.

The good news? Prediabetes can often be reversed. Healthy lifestyle changes, including regular exercise, balanced nutrition, and maintaining a healthy weight, can significantly reduce the risk of developing type 2 diabetes.

Diabetes doesn’t just affect blood sugar—it also increases the risk of heart disease. That’s why regular GP check-ups, including blood pressure, cholesterol, and HbA1c monitoring, are essential for protecting your long-term health.

This National Diabetes Week, take charge of your health. Early detection and prevention can make all the difference.
