Every Kind of Mind

Every Kind of Mind Child-Centred Play Therapy:
Play is the therapy. Children don’t need to talk or change behaviour—they express emotions through self-directed play.

Therapists support them with acceptance and safety. Fully immersed, children lead the way.

✨ Exciting News – A New Chapter for Every Kind of Mind ✨

We are so excited to share that Every Kind of Mind is moving to a new clinic space!

From the 13th of July, you’ll find us operating from our new home at 543 Wyndham Street, Shepparton.

As we prepare for this next chapter, we want to take a moment to sincerely thank the incredible professional community at The Wellness Collective for welcoming and supporting us over the last 12 months. It has been such a special season of growth, collaboration, connection, and friendship — and we are so grateful for the memories, support, and relationships built along the way.

While we are excited for what’s ahead, The Wellness Collective will always hold a special place in our journey.

We can’t wait to welcome our families and community into our new space very soon 💛

What Might the Child Be Exploring Through Play? 👀

In this play, the superheroes stand strong together while other characters appear trapped beneath the building. Rather than assigning meaning, we become curious about the story the child may be exploring.

We might wonder:

• Who keeps people safe?
• What happens when someone feels stuck or overwhelmed?
• Who has the power to help?
• Can strong people make things better?

The superheroes may represent strength, protection, and hope, while the figures beneath the building could reflect feelings that are difficult to carry alone.

✨ In Child-Centred Play Therapy, we trust that children communicate through play. What looks like a simple superhero rescue may be a child exploring safety, courage, vulnerability, and resilience.

Play is the child’s language. Toys are their words. 💛

Children communicate, process, and connect in many different ways.

As adults, our role is not to shape children into one way of being — it is to create spaces where they feel safe, understood, and accepted for who they are.

Because belonging starts when children know they don’t have to change who they are to be valued.

Tiny hands. Big stories. 🤍

In the playroom, children often communicate what they cannot yet fully verbalise. Through figurines, colour choices, sensory materials, and symbolic play, we see glimpses into their inner world — relationships, emotions, worries, hopes, and experiences.

These moments are not directed or interpreted for the child. Instead, in Child-Centred Play Therapy, the child leads while the therapist provides safety, presence, and deep acceptance.

The family figurines lined up together.
The carefully chosen colours.
The squeezing, moulding, creating, and rearranging.

Play gives children distance from overwhelming feelings while still allowing expression. It can feel safer than words.

Sometimes healing looks like conversation.
Sometimes it looks like playdough and tiny wooden people on the floor. 🌿

🧠 Research in child-centred play therapy shows:
The early years are foundational to a child’s emotional, social, and relational development.

Gary Landreth emphasises that young children communicate their inner world through play long before they can explain it in words.

Take a moment to explore what we’re building 🌿

Our website is a space that reflects the heart of what we do — supporting children and families in a way that feels safe, connected, and meaningful.

If you’ve been curious about play therapy, looking for support, or just want to learn more… this is a great place to start.

Head over and have a look — I’d love to hear what you think 🤍

Not all toys are created equal — especially in a play therapy space 🌿

Every item in the playroom is intentionally chosen, not for entertainment, but for expression.

You’ll find toys that invite storytelling, connection, and emotional release…
✨ Open-ended materials that can become anything a child needs them to be
✨ Figures that help children explore relationships and experiences
✨ Sensory items that support regulation and calm
✨ Creative tools that give feelings a voice without needing words

In this space, play isn’t just play — it’s communication, processing, and healing.

That’s why the toys matter. Every single one has a purpose 🤍

Every child’s early years are a time of rapid growth, exploration, and emotional development. It’s also when they are most open to support, connection, and change.
At Every Kind of Mind, we see the power of early intervention through play therapy—creating a safe space where children can express themselves, process their experiences, and build the foundations for lifelong wellbeing.
When we support children early, we’re not just helping them in the moment—we’re supporting who they are becoming.
Because every child deserves to feel seen, understood, and supported. 💛

Sometimes the most powerful lessons children teach us in the therapy room are the ones that remind us to slow down and breathe.

Children remind me daily that regulation isn’t something we teach with words — it’s something we model with our presence.

When a child arrives dysregulated, overwhelmed, or carrying big emotions, they are quietly asking a very important question:
“Is it safe for me to feel this here?”

Our nervous systems answer before our words ever do.

If we are rushed, tense, or distracted, children feel it. But when we slow down… when we breathe… when we allow calm to settle into our bodies… something shifts. Their nervous systems begin to borrow from ours.

Co-regulation begins there.

This is why I value small moments of pause in my day — stepping outside, feeling the air, taking a breath, letting my mind settle. These moments are not indulgent. They are essential.

Because the calmer and more regulated we are as adults, the safer children feel to explore, express, and make sense of their inner worlds.

Children teach us that healing doesn’t happen in the rush.

It happens in the quiet spaces where someone is calm enough to sit beside them and say, without words,
“I’m here. You’re safe. We can slow down together.”

What might shift for the children in our lives if we gave ourselves permission to slow down too? 🌿
