3,000 touch receptors on the tip of a finger!

Now imagine training those fingertips to recognise subtle changes in muscle and connective tissue.

That's part of what Bowen students and practitioners spend years developing.

The Bowen move itself is gentle. Knowing exactly where, when, and how to apply it is the skill.

What do you think surprises people most when they experience Bowen Therapy for the first time?

Just because change isn’t immediately visible doesn’t mean nothing is occurring.

The nervous system is constantly receiving and adjusting.

Fascia is constantly responding to load and tension.

Some of the most important shifts may happen before anything can be seen or felt clearly.

Bowen Therapy works within that space between input and obvious change.

Bowen therapy is an exceptional treatment for sport injuries.

Tom Bowen had a passion for sport and was actively involved in the Geelong football club. He effectively treated all kinds of sports people, some of which traveled across Melbourne to be fixed by him. Tom would let players ‘slip around the back of his clinic to give them a quick treatment’ in-between his other clients. His Saturday sport clinic was completely voluntary, as he was committed to the players. ‘Tom went to all the presentations’ and he was given many thank you plaques and pictures of local teams, that filled his walls.

We have interviewed sports enthusiasts, experts and practitioners Karen Hendrick, Michael Quinlivan, and ex athletes Ariya Lodge and Derrick Edmunds, who all have expressed how Bowen Therapy is cutting-edge technology. In that, it is highly effective for injury prevention, optimising performance, increased maintenance, and rapidly fast tracks injury recovery.

There is huge potential for Bowen Therapy in the sport arena as it is currently very under-utilised, and we believe that our documentary will help it be more widely accepted as a stand-alone therapy.

This little guy could not poo for the first 4 weeks of life without medication until he met me 3 days ago.

He did a big poo 20 minutes after a gentle Bowen treatment and hasn’t stopped since.
Mum says he is very pleased with himself!

Did you know that your jaw and pelvis are connected?

Research shows that when people with certain pain conditions (like complex regional pain syndrome, or CRPS) had their jaw muscles relaxed, their hip flexibility improved. But when they clenched their jaw tightly, their hip flexibility decreased.

This study highlights something Bowen Therapists have long understood: tension or imbalance in one area of the body can affect distant parts.

In this case, the jaw and pelvis are linked through muscular and fascial connections, meaning tension in one area can restrict movement in the other.

Bowen Therapy’s gentle techniques aim to release tension and restore balance across the body.

By gently working with both local and interconnected areas, Bowen Therapy aims to encourage flexibility, ease discomfort, and support the body’s natural alignment.

I love COMFREY, also known as the old KNITBONE!
Works amazingly quickly too, also according to my gym-loving son. Worth a try when you can't get to a Bowen therapist.

A traditional herbal ointment made with comfrey to support comfort in muscles, tendons, and joints. Often known as knitbone, comfrey has a long history of use in traditional wellness practices for physically demanding work, sports, and recovery after strain or exertion.

Great for active people, those with physical occupations, and athletes needing ongoing musculoskeletal support.

What this ointment supports..

• muscle soreness and fatigue

Comfrey is valued for supporting areas of the body that experience repeated strain or heavy use.

Why comfrey
Comfrey has been used for centuries in traditional herbal practices and is often referred to as knitbone due to its historical association with bones, joints, and connective tissue. Ancient Greek herbal traditions are said to have used comfrey in poultices and pastes to support skin and tissue comfort following physical activity.

This herb is especially popular among labourers, athletes, and active individuals seeking natural support for overworked muscles and joints.

In essence, the Bowenwork practitioner is a facilitator, not a manipulator.

By applying the moves, the practitioner gives the body specific neurological signals to relax, and then steps back for a few minutes to allow the body to 'relax itself.'

Compared to many other bodywork techniques, Bowenwork initiates an internal response that stimulates restoration of the body’s equilibrium, rather than an external approach of manipulating areas of tight muscle tension until it is released.

Try this quick test:

Can you comfortably stack three fingers between your upper and lower teeth when your mouth is open?

If not, it may be a sign of issues with your Temporomandibular Joint (TMJ).
Why TMJ health matters

TMJ dysfunction can cause far-reaching effects on the body.

Symptoms may include:
•Chronic headaches
•Neck and back pain
•Tinnitus and hearing loss
•Digestive issues
•Hormonal imbalances
Even seemingly unrelated issues like scoliosis or stomach pain!
An imbalanced TMJ can disrupt blood flow, neural function, and even the central nervous system, potentially leading to widespread discomfort and dysfunction.
