Yoga practice can be joyful. The whole point is to liberate yourself and somewhere along the way, we balance freedom with alignment and the juggernaut of "advanced poses".

Your practice doesn't have to look like anyone else's. Not the person next to you, not the version of yourself from five years ago, not the one on your feed doing the pose you're avoiding. Different body, different season, different day... the practice is supposed to meet you where you are.

Because underneath the shapes, yoga practice is for working on something bigger: feeling at home in your body, and making peace with your mind. Everything else is a doorway in.

If you are after indulgences in cultural and philosophical context, room for a laughter, and the occasional overly-enthusiastic anatomy tangent. You are in the right place.

Rather than act like this happens every year and maybe next time will work out... I wanted to simply tell you the truth and ask: Is this your moment?

This October's Bali retreat may be the last time Linda and I run one there.

Rising costs and working visa restrictions are making it harder to justify. And I want to be honest about what this retreat actually is. It has never been just business. Our work is our life. Linda and I have built this collaboration on a simple policy: friendship before business, always.

The more I work with Linda Lou the more I respect her craft, her care and the way our skills complement each other. We want to make a meaningful contribution to the communities we work in and our retreat is an expression of that.

So we want to invite you one last time, join us above the clouds, among the fern forests, overlooking the rice paddies with a sparkle of ocean along the horizon.

I started running retreats because I believe that the most transformative experiences happen when we step out of our daily life and into something extraordinary.

Something beautiful is beginning.

Yoga at Onespace Gallery: A stunning contemporary art space on the banks of the Maiwar in South Brisbane, with jacaranda trees outside the windows and an ever-evolving collection of art on the walls.

We're launching with a community afternoon I cannot wait to share with you… yoga, tea, homemade cakes and an open gallery viewing, with all proceeds going to the Inclusive Health Clinic run by Micah Projects. Why? Because community participation and health equity is important to us and we want to support accessible wellness in our neighbourhood!

I am writing to you on a device and you are reading this on a screen. And yet here we are, moving toward connection. The best revolutions start from inside the system. So let's work with what we've got.

It is getting very tempting to spiral down the robot rabbit hole… tech goes from helping with hard decisions to validating our every emotion with algorithmic saccharine. Deep down, I think we know we actually need veggie gardens, shared meals and the care of another fully sentient being.

We are more ‘connected’ than at any point in human history and yet we are experiencing a pandemic of loneliness. An analogue rebellion is quietly percolating pre-digital nostalgia as a form of resistance. A collective reaching for the imperfect, the handmade and genuinely human.

Being perpetually online is making us sick: culturally, socially, philosophically and even physically. Your nervous system was not designed for doomscrolling. Your body was not designed for a chair. A soul is not fed by a feed.

Local communities anchor us in reality. I am not about to tell you to delete everything and move to a commune (although I indulge the daydream frequently). Online spaces are genuinely useful for organising and facilitating real life connection. In a world boiling with climate change and crackling with political uncertainty, genuine human community is not a luxury. It is the most resilient infrastructure we have.

What we do together in person, in real time, with other actual humans counts. I am deeply touched when you go beyond “fine thanks” to tell me what is really happening. Thank you for the moments of REAL LIFE we share as we roll out the mat together.
