Peace begins when we learn the difference between what we must accept and what we can change...
OUT OF MY CONTROL
1. Other people's opinions of me
People will judge, misunderstand or criticize me. I can explain myself, but I cannot control how others perceive me.
2. Other people's beliefs and behaviours
I cannot force someone to think differently, become kinder or behave the way I want. Their choices belong to them.
3. The outcomes
I can prepare, work hard and give my best, but I cannot guarantee the result. My responsibility is my effort, not every consequence.
4. The past
I cannot rewrite yesterday, undo mistakes or change what happened. I can only learn from it and choose what I carry forward.
5. The future
I can plan for tomorrow, but I cannot control everything it will bring. Constantly worrying about the future only steals peace from today.
6. Aging and time
Time keeps moving and the body keeps changing. I can care for myself, but I cannot stop life's natural process.
7. What others say or how they treat me
People may be rude, unfair or disrespectful. I cannot control their behaviour, but I can decide how much access they have to my life.
IN MY CONTROL
1. My response
I cannot always choose what happens, but I can choose whether I react with anger or respond with awareness.
2. My boundaries
I can decide what I will accept, what I will refuse and when I need to walk away.
3. My energy
My energy is limited. I can stop giving it to every argument, opinion and problem that demands my attention.
4. My attitude
Circumstances may be difficult, but I can choose whether they make me bitter or wiser, defeated or stronger.
5. My emotions
I cannot always control what I feel, but I can learn to process my emotions without allowing them to control my actions.
6. My words and self-talk
I can choose to speak with kindness and stop turning my own mind into a place of constant criticism.
7. Who I give my time to
I cannot control everyone around me, but I can choose who receives my time, trust and emotional space.
8. How I treat others
Someone else's behaviour does not have to determine my character. I can remain kind without becoming weak.
The wisdom is simple:
Stop trying to control the uncontrollable.
Bring that energy back to yourself.
You cannot control everything that happens in your life, but you can control who you become because of it.
That is where peace begins.
