What is Moxa?
Moxibustion involves burning the dried leaves of the mugwort plant (Artemisia vulgaris) near specific acupuncture points or areas of the body. The warmth penetrates deeply into the tissues, helping to stimulate the flow of Qi (energy) and Blood, while dispelling Cold and Dampness from the body.

How can moxibustion help?

Depending on your individual TCM diagnosis, moxibustion may be used to support:

Muscle and joint pain
Arthritis and stiffness
Chronic neck and back pain
Digestive concerns
Fatigue and low energy
Menstrual pain and irregular cycles
Fertility support
Pregnancy care (including helping encourage a breech baby to turn when appropriate)
Recovery after illness
Cold hands and feet
Supporting the immune system during the colder months
Why do we use warmth?

In Traditional Chinese Medicine, many health conditions are associated with a lack of warmth or circulation within the body. Gentle therapeutic heat helps to:

Improve circulation
Encourage the smooth flow of Qi and Blood
Relax muscles and reduce pain
Nourish Yang energy
Support healing and recovery
Create a comforting sense of relaxation and wellbeing

Many patients describe moxibustion as feeling like a gentle heat pack that reaches much deeper into the body.

Is moxibustion safe?

When performed by a qualified Traditional Chinese Medicine practitioner, moxibustion is very safe. Your practitioner will determine whether it is appropriate for your condition and use techniques that provide therapeutic warmth while protecting your skin.

Is moxibustion right for everyone?

Not every condition requires moxibustion. In TCM, treatment is always tailored to the individual. Your practitioner will assess your unique health pattern and determine whether acupuncture, moxibustion, herbal medicine, dietary therapy, or a combination of treatments will provide the greatest benefit.

At Rebalance Chinese Medicine, every treatment is personalised because no two people are the same.

If you've ever been curious about moxibustion, ask us about it at your next appointment. We'd be happy to explain how this traditional therapy may support your individual health and wellbeing.

Your symptoms are only part of the story. 🌿

In Traditional Chinese Medicine, we don't just look at isolated symptoms, we look at how they're connected. Whether you're experiencing bloating, fatigue, poor sleep, headaches, or feeling run down, these may all form part of a broader picture of your overall health.

That's why every consultation at Rebalance Chinese Medicine begins with understanding you. We take the time to explore your health history, lifestyle, and wellbeing to create a personalised treatment plan tailored to your individual needs.

"Why Choose Traditional Chinese Medicine?"

Health isn't just about treating symptoms—it's about understanding why those symptoms are happening in the first place.
Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) takes a holistic approach, looking at you as a whole person rather than focusing on one condition or body part. Your sleep, digestion, energy, stress levels, emotions, hormones, pain, and lifestyle all provide important clues about your overall health.
At Rebalance Chinese Medicine, we aim to identify and treat the underlying pattern contributing to your symptoms while supporting your body's natural ability to heal and restore balance.
TCM may help support people experiencing:
Stress and anxiety
Fatigue and low energy
Digestive concerns
Headaches and migraines
Neck, back and joint pain
Women's health concerns
Fertility and IVF support
Pregnancy and postpartum care
Menopause and healthy ageing
Sleep difficulties
Seasonal wellness and immune health.

Has a sore throat started creeping in?

As the seasons begin to change, it's common to notice that first scratchy, irritated feeling in your throat. Rather than seeing it as bad luck, Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) views it as your body's early warning system—letting you know that something is out of balance.

In TCM, a sore throat is often associated with Wind-Heat, where an external pathogen has begun to affect the lungs and throat. For others, it may be linked to an underlying Yin deficiency, where the body's natural cooling and nourishing reserves have become depleted, making it easier for heat and inflammation to develop.

Instead of simply masking the discomfort, TCM focuses on understanding why your symptoms have appeared. By identifying the underlying pattern and supporting your body's natural healing processes, we aim to help your body recover more efficiently while reducing the likelihood of symptoms lingering or returning.

One of the most important things you can do is seek treatment early. Addressing symptoms in their initial stages often gives your body the best opportunity to recover quickly and may help prevent a simple sore throat from progressing into a cold, persistent cough, or more significant illness.

Your body is always communicating with you. A sore throat is one of the first whispers that it needs a little extra support.

If you can feel that familiar tickle or scratchiness beginning, don't wait until you're feeling much worse. Early treatment can make all the difference. Book your appointment with Rebalance Chinese Medicine and support your immune system naturally this spring.

Contact Rebalance Chinese Medicine to book your appointment and let us help support your health naturally this season.

There is so much that Acupuncture and Chinese Herbal Medicine may assist with during your pregnancy journey.

Acupuncture and Chinese medicine may also assist you to have an expedient (quicker) labour and birth!

Women in China have been using acupuncture and acupressure for thousands of years to assist them with preparing their body for labour and birth – as well as helping them to recover once giving birth.

In recent years, many studies have been conducted into how acupuncture may assist with decreasing labour times and increasing the strength of contractions.

These studies have now been published, and as a result, many birthing classes – such as Shebirth (registered), hypnobirthing and calm birth – also include information on acupressure points to aid with birth and reduce pain during labour.
