Not sure what treatment you need? You’re not alone.

One of the most common things I hear in consultations is, “I don’t really know what I need, I just know that something has changed.”

And that’s completely okay.

You don’t need to know the name of a treatment, understand the latest technology or arrive with a treatment plan already decided.

You just need to be able to tell me what you’re noticing and what you would like to improve.

From there, we can look at the possible contributing factors, talk through your options and work out what may be appropriate for you.

That might be skincare, a skin treatment, an injectable treatment, a combination of approaches or sometimes no treatment at all.

My consultations are about education, honest advice and creating a plan that makes sense for you.

Why has my face changed shape as I’ve got older?

If you’ve noticed that your face looks different than it used to, you’re not imagining it.

Facial ageing is about much more than lines and wrinkles. Over time, there are changes to collagen, skin elasticity, fat distribution and the underlying structures that support the face.

Hormonal changes can also influence skin thickness, hydration and collagen, particularly around and after menopause.

You may notice changes such as less definition around the jawline, changes in your cheeks, deeper folds or areas that appear more hollow.

But there isn’t one solution, and you don’t necessarily need a treatment.

The first step is understanding what has changed and what is actually bothering you.

During a complimentary consultation, we can look at your concerns, discuss your skin and goals, and talk through the options that may be appropriate for you. A little behind the scenes of a Rejuran treatment.

This video shows a patient receiving Rejuran, including the small injections used during the treatment.

One of the questions I’m often asked is, “Does it hurt?”

Rejuran is generally very comfortable and well tolerated, although everyone’s sensitivity is different. I work at your pace and always prioritise your comfort throughout the treatment.

And if you would prefer some extra comfort, topical numbing cream can be applied beforehand.

During your consultation, I’ll explain what to expect, answer your questions and assess whether Rejuran is appropriate for you.

“I don’t want to look like I’ve had anything done.”

I hear this all the time in consultations.

And honestly, I think that’s a very reasonable goal.

For me, a natural result isn’t about making you look younger or changing the way you look. It’s about understanding what is bothering you, looking at the face as a whole and working out what may be contributing to those changes.

Sometimes that means a treatment. Sometimes it means improving skin health or skincare. Sometimes a combination is appropriate. And sometimes, you may decide that doing nothing is the right choice for you.

There is no one treatment that is right for everyone.

That’s why I always start with a thorough consultation, education and an honest conversation about your options.

The goal is still you. Just feeling a little more confident in your skin.

Have you ever looked in the mirror and thought, 'I look tired' when you actually feel perfectly fine?

You're not imagining it.

As we age, changes in collagen, elasticity, skin hydration and the tissues that support our face can alter the way light and shadow fall across our features. Hormonal changes, including those associated with menopause, can also affect skin quality.

The result can be a face that looks more tired, drawn or less refreshed, even when you feel great.

The important question isn't always 'What treatment do I need?'

One thing many people don't realise is that cosmetic conferences aren't just lectures.

They're an opportunity to learn, observe, ask questions and share knowledge with other clinicians who are passionate about providing safe, evidence-based care.

This time, I had the opportunity to experience my last conference from a different perspective by volunteering as a treatment model during a live educational demonstration.

Being on the other side of the chair is incredibly valuable. It reminds me what it's feels like to be the patient and reinforces the importance of listening, communicating clearly, providing reassurance and delivering thoughtful aftercare.

Every conference I attend expands my knowledge and gives me new insights that I can bring back to my clients. Continuing education isn't just something I enjoy, it's an important part of providing the highest standard of care.

Thank you to everyone involved in such a valuable learning experience.
