Does choosing an implant size mean choosing a cup size?

⁠Dr Drew Cronin explains that this is one of the most common points of confusion raised in consultation. Implants are measured in volume, not in bra or cup sizes — and a cup size is not a fixed or standardised measurement.

⁠Bra sizing differs between brands and styles, so the same implant volume may translate to different cup labels depending on the bra. This is why the conversation focuses on volume and proportion rather than a target cup size.

⁠How a given volume appears also depends on your existing anatomy, which is unique to you.

For some patients, excess skin isn't just an aesthetic concern — it's a functional one. This patient, in her mid-40s and very active in daily life, had been experiencing ongoing rashes and skin breakdown caused by excess skin folds, a common but under-discussed consequence of significant weight loss.⁠

Dr Drew Cronin performed a circumferential lipectomy with mastopexy (breast lift) to address both the functional skin issues and the change in body and breast shape that followed her weight loss. Can you just ask for the same implant someone else had?⁠

⁠Dr Drew Cronin explains that this is one of the most common requests raised in consultation. Many patients arrive with a specific size in mind, based on a result they liked on a friend, a photo or someone online — and expect the same implant will give them the same look.⁠
⁠
⁠The difficulty is that anatomy differs from person to person. The way an implant sits and appears depends heavily on a patient's existing breast tissue, chest shape, skin and body frame — so the same implant can look quite different from one person to the next.⁠
⁠
⁠This is why sizing is individualised and dictated largely by anatomy, rather than copied from another person's result. What suits one body may not translate to another.⁠

This patient, 62, had a SMAS face and neck lift fifteen years ago. Ordinary facial ageing continued over that result — the folds around the mouth deepened, jowling reappeared along a softening jawline, and the neck contour she'd gained lost its definition.

Revision surgery is a different problem to a first operation. Returning to the same superficial plane fifteen years on offers diminishing returns. Dr Sparks worked in a deeper plane instead, releasing the retaining ligaments and repositioning skin and the underlying layer as a single unit, with the neck addressed directly and fat grafted to the cheeks and lower eyelids to restore lost volume. Tightening alone doesn't correct a hollow lid-cheek transition — it can sharpen it.

At six weeks post-surgery, swelling is still present and the contour has not fully settled. Recovery generally means one to two weeks of swelling and bruising, two to three weeks away from work, and no strenuous activity for at least six weeks. The final result matures over several months.

Re**us diastasis is one of the most common — and most misunderstood — consequences of pregnancy. When the abdominal muscles separate during pregnancy and don't fully come back together afterwards, no amount of core training can close that gap. It's a structural issue, not a fitness one.

Dr Drew Cronin recently performed an abdominoplasty with re**us muscle repair for a patient in her mid-30s, following pregnancy and a significant weight loss journey. Surgical repair of the abdominal wall was completed as part of the procedure to restore core structure and function.

Recovery is a genuine commitment: 4 weeks off work, help at home for the first 1–2 weeks, no driving until 2–3 weeks, and no strenuous exercise, swimming or bathing for 6 weeks. Gentle walking is encouraged early on. Following post-operative guidance closely is one of the most important factors in a safe recovery.

Why don't breasts look 'settled' straight after surgery?

⁠Dr Drew Cronin explains that the settling process is one of the most common things patients ask about afterwards. In the early stages, implants often sit higher and firmer than they eventually will — a stage sometimes described as before the implant has 'dropped and fluffed'.

⁠Over the following weeks and months, the tissues relax and the implant gradually settles into position. This is a normal part of the process, not the finished picture.

⁠The timeframe for settling varies between individuals, so patience through recovery is important.

A circumferential lipectomy — sometimes called a lower body lift or belt lipectomy — is one of the most significant procedures in body contouring surgery. It's designed for patients who've lost substantial weight and are left with excess skin and soft tissue laxity all the way around the trunk, something that diet, exercise and time alone often can't resolve.

Dr Drew Cronin recently performed a circumferential lipectomy for a patient in her mid-40s following a 40kg weight loss journey. Given the extent of the procedure, the patient required a 6-night hospital stay for close post-operative monitoring and care.

This is major reconstructive body contouring surgery, and the recovery timeline reflects that — full recovery is measured in months, not weeks.
