Recently, we celebrated a remarkable milestone as Sheena and June marked 20 years with The Layt Clinic.

This patient presented with concerns regarding the size and weight of her breasts, reporting a feeling of heaviness, neck and shoulder discomfort, and changes that had persisted despite previous weight loss.

On clinical assessment, breast hypertrophy (overly large breasts) was identified. Following consultation and discussion of treatment options, a bilateral breast reduction was performed.

The procedure involved reducing breast volume while reshaping the breast and repositioning the nipple-areolar complex to suit the patient's anatomy.

Fifteen years after her breast augmentation with Dr Layt, this patient attended our Breast Implant Check Clinic (BICC) for routine monitoring.

She had recently noticed some rippling and discomfort when lying on her side following weight loss and wanted reassurance that her implants were intact.

Following clinical examination and an in-clinic ultrasound, there was no evidence of implant rupture, and no further treatment was recommended. The changes she had noticed were consistent with normal findings, including rippling, which can become more noticeable as body composition changes.

📸 These images were taken approximately 15 years apart, which is why the backgrounds differ.

This case highlights an important point: breast implants do not routinely require replacement simply because they have reached a certain age. Decisions regarding implant replacement should be based on clinical assessment, imaging where appropriate, individual circumstances and any symptoms a patient may be experiencing.

Regular monitoring remains an important part of long-term breast implant care, even when there are no concerns.

This patient presented seeking breast augmentation and was noted to have a chest wall asymmetry that required careful consideration during surgical planning.

Following consultation and clinical assessment, she underwent bilateral breast augmentation using anatomical (teardrop-shaped) implants (390cc) placed in a dual plane (subpectoral) position via an inframammary fold incision.

A small volume of fat grafting to the cleavage and upper chest area was also performed using the patient's own tissue, harvested from the flank region.
