The Melanoma Centre

The Melanoma Centre Established in year 2000, The Melanoma Centre is the Queensland's longest running fully private skin cancer clinic.

At the Melanoma Centre we believe that there is no room for shortcuts during a mole examination, as it can place lives at risk. The Melanoma Centre was established in the year 2000. The Melanoma Centre is the only fully private clinic exclusively devoted to mole and skin cancer diagnosis and treatment in Queensland. Privately owned and operated, The Melanoma Centre has no connection with corporate

owned or bulk-billing skin cancer clinic chains. On 31st October 2016, The Melanoma Centre team relocated to new, modern premises conveniently located in Spring Hill Marketplace. The new practice is located on level 1, alongside Turbot Street Medical Centre. The practice is easily accessible, with 2 hour free parking and disabled access.

"At The Melanoma Centre, we offer Photodynamic Therapy (PDT) as an effective treatment option for sun-damaged skin and actinic keratoses.

PDT works by targeting damaged skin cells using a specialised light treatment, helping to treat areas of sun damage while supporting healthier skin.

This treatment may be recommended for patients with widespread sun damage, particularly in frequently exposed areas like the face and scalp.

Wondering if PDT may be suitable for you? Speak with our experienced team and book a consultation with us at (07) 3846 0990.

"Why Australians Are Being Reminded Not to Get Complacent About Skin Checks?

Australia continues to have one of the highest rates of skin cancer in the world... and many skin cancers are still being detected late because people delay having suspicious spots checked.

Even during cooler months, UV exposure continues to damage the skin over time. That’s why regular skin checks remain one of the most important steps in early detection.

✔️ Notice a new or changing spot?
✔️ Haven’t had a skin check in a while?
✔️ Think it’s “probably nothing”?

Don’t ignore it.

Early detection can make all the difference. Book your skin check with The Melanoma Centre at (07) 3846 0990.

Living in Australia means higher exposure to UV radiation... and regular skin checks play an important role in early detection.

How often you should have a skin check depends on your personal risk factors, including:
✔️ Fair skin or history of sunburns
✔️ Family or personal history of skin cancer
✔️ High sun exposure over the years
✔️ Lots of moles or changing spots

For many Australians, yearly skin checks are recommended, while higher-risk patients may need more frequent monitoring.

The most important thing? Don’t wait until something feels serious.

Stay proactive about your skin health and book your next skin check with our experienced team at (07) 3846 0990 or online.

Dry skin is often temporary and may feel rough, flaky, tight, or itchy, especially during cooler months.

Sun damage, however, tends to build over time and may appear as:
• Persistent rough or scaly patches
• Uneven pigmentation or dark spots
• Redness that doesn’t fade
• Changes in texture
• New or changing lesions

If a spot isn’t improving, keeps changing, or stands out from the rest of your skin, it’s worth getting checked.

Concerned about sun damage or a suspicious spot? Book a skin check with The Melanoma Centre with our experienced team at (07) 3846 0990 or online.

Cooler weather doesn’t mean UV damage stops.

Even outside of summer, ultraviolet (UV) radiation can still damage your skin and increase the risk of skin cancer over time, especially in Queensland.

That’s why sun protection remains important year-round:
✔️ Wear SPF 50+ sunscreen
✔️ Use hats and protective clothing
✔️ Seek shade when UV levels are high
✔️ Don’t forget regular skin checks

Protecting your skin is a daily habit, not just a summer one.

Due for a skin check? Book with our experienced team at (07) 3846 0990 or online.

Not every skin cancer looks obvious.

Many Australians ignore small spots because they seem harmless, but changes in the skin should never be overlooked.

Common signs worth checking include:
• A spot that won’t heal
• A mole changing in size, shape, or colour
• Rough or scaly patches
• A new spot that looks different from others
• Areas that bleed, crust, or itch repeatedly

Early skin cancers can be subtle. That’s why regular skin checks are so important.

If something doesn’t look right, book a professional skin check with The Melanoma Centre online or call (07) 3846 0990.

When it comes to skin checks, studies show that women are more likely to regularly check their skin, and seek medical advice earlier.

Men, on the other hand, are often diagnosed at a later stage, when treatment can be more complex.

Skin cancer doesn’t discriminate, but with early action makes a difference.

✔️ Check your skin regularly
✔️ Don’t ignore changes
✔️ Book a professional skin check

No matter who you are, staying proactive about your skin health could save your life.

Wearing a hat isn’t just for the beach, it’s one of the simplest ways to protect your skin every day.

Areas like the face, ears, and neck are highly exposed to UV radiation and are common sites for skin cancer. A wide-brim or legionnaire-style hat helps shield these vulnerable areas from direct sun exposure.

✔️ Choose a broad-brim hat for better coverage
✔️ Pair with SPF 50+ sunscreen
✔️ Use daily, even when it’s not hot

Small habits make a big difference over time. Due for a skin check? Book your appointment at (07) 3846 0990.

May is the perfect time to prioritise your skin health.

After months of higher sun exposure over summer, this is when changes in your skin may start to appear. Cooler weather also makes it more comfortable to undergo full skin checks and any follow-up treatments if needed.

Skin cancer doesn’t develop overnight, it builds over time. That’s why post-summer checks are so important.

✔️ Review sun damage from summer
✔️ Detect changes early
✔️ Stay proactive about your skin health

Don’t wait for a concern to grow. Book your skin check with The Melanoma Centre at (07) 3846 0990 or online.
