Today Monika and I are heading off on the Cherish Epic Ten Peaks Challenge alongside an incredible team of trekkers, doctors, researchers and women with lived experience, raising funds for gynaecological cancer research.

In the coming days, my wife Monika and I will depart on the Cherish Epic Ten Peaks Challenge, alongside 17 other trekkers including fellow doctors, cancer researchers, Cherish colleagues and women with lived experience. Together, we are climbing ten of Australia’s highest peaks to support gynaecological cancer research.

For more than 25 years as a gynaecological oncologist, I have walked with families through some of the hardest moments imaginable. These experiences drive me to hope for a better future.

We climb for earlier diagnosis, kinder treatments, and better outcomes for women and their families. Progress in this space depends on research, collaboration, and community support.

I congratulate all members of the Epic Ten Peaks team for raising more than $60,000 (and counting) in support of gynaecological cancer research - a tremendous result! Since 2019, the Cherish Challenges have raised more than $1 million for research. Thank you to everyone who contributed to this legacy.

We’re so proud to share that 19 amazing people are taking on the Epic 10 Peaks Challenge this May. Each trekker brings their own story and one shared purpose: to change the future for women facing gynaecological cancer.

Among them are Andreas and Monika, walking side‑by‑side and carrying the stories of women and families who have shaped their work for years. For them, every peak represents hope — earlier diagnosis, kinder treatment, greater choice, and a future where our children face cancer with courage, not fear.

Our third peak on the upcoming Epic Ten Peaks Challenge is Mt Townsend, representing our commitment to earlier detection. When gynaecological cancers are found early, treatment is kinder, survival is higher, and lives are changed for the better.

Research projects like the EARLY Study for ovarian cancer are working to improve screening, recognise symptoms sooner, and detect cancers at the earliest, most treatable stages.
