When experiencing a PANIC ATTACK our body becomes stressed & tense. There are many strategies to reduce a panic attack.

Here are some easy steps to stop or reduce a panick attack, to calm down your body & tension 🙏🏼

1. Breathing ~ breathing is vital for our body to release tension. Remember to take deep stomach breathes, & slowly breathing out. Doing this a few times & slowly. One technique we teach our clients is to place one hand on your stomach & the other on your forehead/ back of neck while taking deep slow breathes. This allows you to feel the control of your breathing which then allows focus. You can do this for a few minutes.

2. Practice MINDFULLNESS ~ mindfulness can help create peace, inner relaxation to release the tension in your body & mind. It can also support in developing a new response when you start to feel anxiety & fear. Mindfulness can be done in many ways. One that we practice is thinking positive thoughts, & also focusing into a place that brings peace & happiness. This can also assist in reducing headaches & migraines. Some people experience a headache & migraine after a panic attack as our necks/body experiences such tension. Practicing mindfulness is one way that can support to reduce this from happening.

3. MUSCLE RELAXATION TECHNIQUES ~

Focus on relaxing a part of your body. Simple start with one part of your body, example could be your feet. Twinkling your toes, focusing on how the tension releases as you focus. Then moving to your hands, fingers, shoulders, neck etc. This then allows your body to relax. Releasing the tension & relaxing your body & mind 🙏🏼

WHAT IS THE CAUSE OF MIGRAINE & AURA?

On the surface, the cause may be attributed to stress, tension, fatigue, certain foods, chemical or hormonal imbalances, but in reality these are more accurately triggers and not “the” cause.

What is the real cause of Migraine and aura 🤯😫?

Thankfully, research is now revealing what every migraine sufferer knew all along, namely it’s not “all in your head!” In fact, what is emerging is the fact of a common pathway or “headache headquarters” in the brainstem where multiple neurons converge. This specific region is called the Trigeminocervical complex (TCC) and is a “holy grail” of sorts for both researchers and sufferers alike. Furthermore, recent studies have revealed that one of the most powerful causes of brainstem sensitivity is the upper neck or Cervical spine4,6,7.

Even between an episode or attack, research shows that migraineurs exhibit a sensitized brainstem. This explains why normal stimuli is registered by a migraineurs nervous system as a stressor or trigger for an attack…it is normal everyday stressors activating an already sensitized brainstem. Therefore, the real cause of the neurovascular event we call a migraine with aura, is this underlying neurological condition.

During an attack an already sensitized brainstem (by the neck or other causes) is activated by a trigger, which then sets off an explosive positive feedback loop from the brain cortex and back to the brainstem. The already “cranky” hyper sensitized brainstem fires and the cortical brain cells respond with cortical spreading depression causing inflammation of the blood vessels, dura and local tissues in the face, head and neck. The trigeminal nerve (a nerve that supply’s sensory and some motor control to the face, head, jaw and upper teeth) then picks up this amplified signal and becomes inflamed and sensitized itself lighting up pain in the face, head and scalp which then sends powerful signals back to the brain stem and the pain neuromatrix…and the vicious cycle continues amplifying and causing intense pain and multiple aura effects.

THE SOLUTION🙌🏼🙏🏼

The good news is this brainstem sensitivity can be treated with an integrated and combined therapy approach, with a critical step being expert screening of the upper neck as a primary contributor of sensitivity in the brainstem3,4.

Our unique combined therapy approach is logical and evidence-based and aimed at decreasing the sensitivity in the brainstem at the “headache headquarters” with a number of safe treatment options individualized to your headache type.

It’s World Mental Health Day 2020 today.

World Mental Health Day – 10 October – is a day for global mental health education, awareness and advocacy.

This year's theme:
Do You See What I See?
..challenges perceptions about mental illness in Australia and encourages everyone to look at mental health in a more positive light, in an effort to reduce stigma and make way for more people to seek the help and support they deserve.

During this time of physical distancing and heightened anxiety in our community, we are encouraging all Australians to look after their mental health.

The International Headache Society reports that TTH is the most common type of primary headache with up to 70% of the population being affected during their lifetime.

TENSION HEADACHES are normally described as constant pressure, tightness or squeezing pain & is frequently located on both sides or all over the head, although occasionally, like migraine it can be one-sided.

What causes Tension Headaches?🤯
Those suffering from Tension-Type Headache (TTH) often report that their headaches are triggered by ‘’stress’’ or ‘’tension in the neck and shoulders’’. Other triggers commonly include prolonged or poor posture at the computer, driving or sedentary tasks, neck dysfunction, medication overuse and fatigue. Often a massage, warm shower, exercise or pain medications can alleviate the pain for it to only return at a later time or the next day.
