September is Prostate Cancer Awareness Month💙

Prostate cancer is the most commonly diagnosed cancer in Australian men, and around 1 in 5 men will be diagnosed during their lifetime.

The good news is that when prostate cancer is detected early, outcomes are often very good. That's why it's important to understand your risk and know when to have a conversation with your GP.

A PSA blood test may be appropriate for some men, particularly those aged 50–69 years, or earlier if you have a strong family history of prostate cancer. PSA testing isn't right for everyone, so it's important to discuss the potential benefits and limitations with your GP.

If you're due for a discussion about prostate cancer screening, or you're unsure about your risk, we're here to help.

🌬️ Asthma Week | 1–7 September

Asthma affects around 1 in 9 Australians, and good asthma management can make a big difference to everyday life.

This Asthma Week is a good reminder to check in on your asthma:
💨 Is your asthma well controlled?
💨 Are you using your inhaler correctly?
💨 Is your Asthma Action Plan up to date?
💨 Have you had your preventer medication reviewed recently?

If it’s been a while since your last asthma review, book an appointment with your GP to make sure your treatment plan is working well for you.

💜 Today, we wear purple.

This year’s Wear It Purple Day theme, Colours of Courage, celebrates the many ways courage can show up every day — in being yourself, speaking up, standing beside others and helping create spaces where everyone feels safe to belong.

The Grove Medical team is proud to support Wear It Purple Day, standing with LGBTQIA+ young people and celebrating a future where everyone feels safe, respected and empowered to be themselves.

In healthcare, we believe courage should always be met with compassion. Every person deserves to feel welcomed, heard and respected when seeking care, without judgement and without having to hide who they are.

Today, we celebrate courage in all its colours and the everyday actions that help create more inclusive communities. 💜🌈

❤️ Wearing red. Raising awareness. Saving little lives.

Today, the Grove Medical team is proudly wearing red in support of Red Nose Day.

Every year, Red Nose works to reduce the devastating impact of sudden infant death, stillbirth, and miscarriage through life-saving research, education, and support for families.

We're proud to stand with families across Australia and help raise awareness for this important cause.

❤️ Together, we can help give every baby the safest possible start to life.

🌼 Daffodil Day 💛

Today our Grove Medical team is wearing yellow in support of Daffodil Day and the many Australians whose lives have been impacted by cancer.

Daffodil Day is a chance to come together, raise awareness and support the incredible work of Cancer Council – from life-saving cancer research through to prevention programs and support for people affected by cancer.

The daffodil represents hope for a cancer-free future, and we’re proud to add a little extra yellow to Grove today in support of such an important cause. 🌼💛

An important milestone for ADHD care in Western Australia.

This week, the WA Government announced that 64 GPs have completed specialist ADHD training, supporting a greater role for appropriately trained GPs in the assessment, treatment and ongoing management of ADHD.
For patients and families, this represents an important step towards improving access to ADHD care, reducing barriers and providing more options for care closer to home.

Grove Medical’s Dr Sean Stevens, OAM has been closely involved in advocating for improved access to ADHD care in WA, including through his work with the RACGP WA ADHD Working Group. It was great to see Sean join Hon Meredith Hammat MLA, Minister for Health; Mental Health, David Scaife MLA, Member for Cockburn, and others involved in bringing this initiative forward.

We’re proud to be part of a changing landscape for ADHD care in WA and look forward to seeing the positive impact these changes can have for patients and the broader community.
