Have your say on a national policy decision that shapes who can deliver psychedelic assisted psychotherapy in Australia.

AMAPP is Australia's peak multidisciplinary body for psychedelic assisted therapy, honouring both professional expertise and lived experience. We advocate for clients' rights to safe, equitable care and for fair protections for practitioners.

Under the current TGA pathway, only psychologists with clinical psychology endorsement can fill the mandatory qualifying practitioner role on behalf of the psychology profession. Appropriately qualified medical practitioners, registered nurses with mental health experience and registered occupational therapists can also fill it, assessed on scope, training and experience. Generally registered and counselling psychologists cannot, whatever their training or supervised experience.

Material released under FOI 26-3215 records that the TGA's October 2025 outcomes paper proposed a broader rule, that of 29 recorded consultation responses 15 supported broadening the qualifying role and 9 opposed it, and that no National Board holds a psychedelic assisted psychotherapy specific qualification or endorsement. The Psychology Board's advice was expressed as an interim position, applying "until evidence base grows".

Our question to the sector and the community is simple: is it consistent to require clinical psychology endorsement for psychologists, when occupational therapists, mental health nurses and medical practitioners qualify through scope, training and experience?

AMAPP is calling for a transparent, competency based framework instead, the same position we put to the TGA in our August 2025 submission, endorsed by PACFA. We are now collecting professional and community submissions and putting them directly to the TGA and the Psychology Board of Australia.

If you are a practitioner, researcher, clinical trial investigator, or you work in a professional or peak body, tell us what you have seen of multidisciplinary practice, training, supervision and workforce impact.

If you are a consumer, family member, carer, or part of a lived experience community, tell us how continuity of care, client choice, cost and access to a practitioner you trust affect you.

AAPi is independently challenging the same restriction, and our credentialing team is reviewing AMAPP's policies in line with the new TGA policy, with updated guidelines to follow.

Read the full campaign page and make a submission: https://www.amapp.org.au/tga-campaign

This campaign provides general educational and policy information. It does not provide clinical or legal advice, promote access to an unapproved medicine, or make claims about the safety or effectiveness of a regulated health service. Please keep submissions factual, respectful and focused on evidence and policy impact.

Have your say on the TGA rule that lets only clinical psychologists with an area of practice endorsement fill the required registered role on a psychedelic assisted psychotherapy team. AMAPP is gathering professional and community submissions, and freedom of information material shows the TGA's own

Beautiful weekend with family before I head off to Peru for dieta.

Feeling truly blessed by the people in my life. Blood family, chosen family, and the family we marry into.

Different lives, different paths, but connected through love, respect, shared values, and our children.

As Ram Dass said, “If you think you are enlightened, go spend a week with your family.”

Grateful for the love, the laughter, and the thoughtful gifts. You know me well.

The TGA has released the outcomes of its targeted consultation on the Authorised Prescriber scheme for psychedelic-assisted therapies. There are some great wins here, and one element AMAPP cannot support.

The headline changes:

★ Greater flexibility in supervision pathways for psychiatrists, recognising current workforce constraints

★ A broader dyad composition. The team must include at least one practitioner registered as a clinical psychologist (with endorsement), medical practitioner, mental health nurse, or occupational therapist

★ Clarified treatment site requirements without mandating formal accreditation

★ The Authorised Prescriber remains responsible for screening, informed consent, and physical presence during medicine administration

These are meaningful refinements, and AMAPP welcomes the direction. However, there is one element we cannot support.

The policy’s dyad eligibility list omits general and counselling psychologists, allowing them only as additional practitioners at the Authorised Prescriber’s discretion. Both registrations involve substantial psychotherapy training. AMAPP considers this omission a critical error and will challenge it. Alongside that, we are developing a review and consultation process document to support better co-production and co-design of health care policy.

A note on what the policy keeps central. The framework still requires any practitioner in the dyad to demonstrate appropriate skills, training, and competence relevant to psychedelic-assisted psychotherapy. The psychotherapy component remains at the heart of this work, regardless of which registrations are in the team.

This is exactly where AMAPP’s work sits. Our policies and advocacy are built around what genuine multidisciplinary practice in psychedelic-assisted therapy looks like, and how a team is configured so that clinical rigour, therapy, compliance, and person-centred choices are cultivated rather than assumed. Our board, advisors and members are continuing to refine our credential and supervision frameworks and look forward to submitting updated versions in the coming months.

Anam Cara meet up magic 🪄

“Frequently, beauty is playful like dancing sunlight, it cannot be predicted, and in the most unlikely scene or situation can suddenly emerge.

This spontaneity and playfulness often subverts our self-importance and throws our plans and intentions into disarray.

Without intending it, we find ourselves coming alive with a sense of celebration and delight.

The pedestrian sequence of a working day breaks, a new door opens and the heart recognizes the silent majesty of the ordinary.

The things we never notice, like health, friends and love, emerge from their subdued presence and stand out in their true radiance as gifts we could never have earned or achieved. Beauty.

Anam Cara Centre
Bridging contemplative practices with the art and science of healing.

Applications are now open for the 2026 Certificate in Psychedelic and Contemplative Therapies (CPACT).

CPACT is a 12-month hybrid training for professionals, students, and therapists seeking an integrative, evidence-based, and experiential pathway into psychedelic and contemplative therapies.

The course includes 200 hours of training, combining core curriculum, contemplative electives, live webinars, study groups, role-plays, and in-person intensives.

We also partner with PAT clinics and trials, supporting pathways into practice through mentoring, supervision, and professional connection.

As Kirstie Missenden, Clinical Psychologist and Anam Cara PAT therapist, shared:
“This training is both professionally enriching and personally transformative, equipping practitioners to engage in this work with confidence and integrity.”

And Nick Lines, Counsellor and Anam Cara PAT therapist, shared:
“Dr Lani Roy and Melissa Warner are exceptional teachers and mentors, sharing their vast knowledge and experience to make this CPACT course unique, relevant, and practical.”

We are proud of the community we are co- creating; guided by the SWIM framework and EMPATHS values, CPACT supports practitioners to develop knowledge, self-awareness, and practical skills for work in this emerging field.

Applications are now open
CPACT begins 21 September 2026

The best, like water. Lao Tzu

The best, like water,
Benefit all and do not compete.
They dwell in lowly spots that everyone else scorns.
Putting others before themselves,
They find themselves in the foremost place
And come very near to the Tao.

In their dwelling, they love the earth;
In their heart, they love what is deep;
In personal relationships, they love kindness;
In their words, they love truth.
In the world, they love peace.
In personal affairs, they love what is right.
In action, they love choosing the right time.
It is because they do not compete with others
That they are beyond the reproach of the world.

I lost a colleague and friend last week; a psychiatrist I shall call Dass, for privacy.

We met in that strange overlap where psychiatry, psychedelics, philosophy, and a shared grief at how many people were suffering while the system debated the paperwork all converge.

We spent hours navigating TGA submissions, HREC approvals, and prescribing pathways for psychedelic-assisted therapy in Australia. Not because we thought the bureaucracy was right — because we both understood that the fastest way through a locked door is to know exactly where the lock is. The people waiting on the other side had already run out of time for anything slower.

That was Dass. Rebellious and rigorous in equal measure.
Our humour was extremely dry and quick. The joke was always that we were both supposed to be the adults in the room. And we were. And we absolutely were not. And we both found that very funny.
Conversations moved — memes to moods to mysticism, then back to policy. Chaotic, alive, hilarious, sometimes unexpectedly profound.

What the field lost is his particular combination: intellectual depth, spiritual openness, warmth, deep empathetic awareness of human rights, and wit. The rare capacity to sit with someone at the very edge of what medicine could explain and not flinch.

He made my life better for knowing him. He made the absurd slog of system change feel less lonely.
Our paths cross many times.

Will be barracking for you. 🤍

To those working on the frontlines of mental health, medicine, and system change; please look after yourselves. The work is heavy and the systems we operate within are not always designed to hold us.
Check in on your colleagues. Advocate for proper support structures for those who carry others. We cannot pour from empty vessels, and we cannot afford to lose the people who show up with both heart and rigour— Lani

Co-creating the Future of Medicine-Assisted Psychotherapy ✨

We’re proud to share a new partnership between Anam Cara Centre and Rainbow Mandala Therapies, creating a supervised CPACT Psychedelic-Assisted Therapy (PAT) Clinical Mentoring Pathway for eligible students.

This collaboration reflects years of relationship-building and shared values, grounded in trust, care, and a deep respect for the responsibility this work carries.

Through this pathway, eligible students in Anam Cara’s Certificate of Psychedelic-Assisted and Contemplative Therapies (CPACT) may apply to participate in supervised clinical mentoring within TGA-approved medicine-assisted psychotherapy programs, gaining experience in real-world clinical and research-informed settings alongside experienced practitioners.

At the heart of this pathway is a deep respect for:
✨Learning through relationship and co-mentorship
✨Supporting students over time, not just at one moment
✨Team-based, reflective clinical practice and celebration!
✨Holding clinical rigour alongside contemplative depth and eternal curiosity.

We are especially proud of our students for their patience, care, and commitment to growing into this work with integrity. Training the next generation of practitioners is not about fast pathways, but about walking alongside one another, building trust, and strengthening the ecosystem together.

We continue this work with relationality, clinical rigour, creative wonderment, and a strong dose of GRIT and GRACE building the future of medicine-assisted psychotherapy together.
