World Mental Health Day is a reminder that mental health is an important part of our overall health and wellbeing.

Just as we seek help when something isn't right physically, psychological difficulties deserve attention and support too.

Looking after your mental health can mean:

• Noticing when stress is becoming difficult to manage
• Making time for sleep, relationships and activities that support your wellbeing
• Learning strategies to manage difficult emotions or thoughts
• Talking to someone when things don't feel right
• Seeking professional support when difficulties begin affecting daily life

You don't need to wait until things reach crisis point before asking for help.

Sometimes, reaching out early can make it easier to understand what's happening and find strategies that help.

This World Mental Health Day, let's make talking about mental health a normal part of looking after ourselves.

R U OK? Day is a reminder that a meaningful conversation can start with a simple question.

But if someone says, “Actually, no. I’m not OK,” you don’t need to have all the answers.

You can:

• Listen without immediately trying to fix the problem
• Ask what they need
• Let them know you’re there for them
• Check in again later
• Encourage them to seek professional support when appropriate

Sometimes the most helpful thing you can do is simply stay present and listen.

You don't need to be a psychologist to show someone that they matter.

Does your child talk at home but not at school or in other situations?

It can be confusing — especially when you’re not sure how to respond or how to help.

Selective Mutism isn’t about stubbornness. It’s anxiety.
And the way we respond can make a big difference.

Helping your child build emotional confidence starts with you.

Our Tuning in to Kids Online Parent Group is designed to give you practical, evidence-based strategies to better understand your child, support their emotions, and respond in ways that strengthen connection.

In this small group program, you’ll learn how to:
• talk about feelings with more confidence
• coach your child through big emotions

This Thursday—11 September—is R U OK? Day, Australia’s national day of action reminding us all that a meaningful conversation can make a real difference. 💛

You don’t need to be a mental health expert—with caring, open-hearted questions and authentic listening, you may change the course of someone’s day. Even a small gesture can matter.

Here’s how:
1. Ask: "Are you OK?"
2. Listen—without judgement.
3. Encourage action—like seeking support or taking a breather.
4. Check in—again, to show you care.

So this Thursday (and any day), reach out—text, call, or chat in person. You might just be the reason someone feels seen today.
