As summer approaches, warmer temperatures mean snakes are more active.

It is important to remember all snake bites must be treated as potentially life-threatening. If you have been bitten by a snake, call triple zero (000) and ask for an ambulance.

Snake bites should always be looked at by a Doctor even if you seem well.

First aid for snake bites:

● Keep calm and get the person away from the snake
● Call triple zero (000) and ask for an ambulance (if calling triple zero does not work on your mobile phone, try calling 112).
● Keep the person who has been bitten still and help them to stay calm.
● Apply a pressure bandage.
● Start cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR), if the person is unresponsive or not breathing normally.
● Stay with the person until the ambulance arrives.

From October 1st, free COVID-19 vaccines will no longer be available as a universal program.

Instead, these will only be free for eligible groups at highest risk of severe disease:

● Adults aged 65 years and older (one dose every 12 months)
● Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people aged 50 years and older
● All adults aged 18 years and older with severe immunocompromise

The 2026 free flu program also finishes at the end of this month. Its is never too late to get your flu shot!
